Focus Description:

Using a magic sword will help decorate card tricks.

Focus secret:

The basis of this sword is an ordinary rapier. This rapier has a cut end at a distance of about 5 mm. Small transverse plates of copper are attached across the concave side of this top and across the corresponding shortened blade. Each of these blades is curved in the middle so that, together with the concavity of the blade, they form a hole sufficient for the free movement of a thin elastic cord. The other end of this lace goes into the same small cavity at the handle. This elastic cord rests on the concave surface of the blade, passing through the holes described, and is secured with a knot at each end. By pulling on the cord, you bring the movable tip into its normal position at the end of the blade. But this top can be moved in any direction, as far as the elasticity of the lace will allow. And if the lace is lowered, then it again takes its usual position.

On the side of the handle, which is farthest from the hand when the sword is taken in hand, is attached a flat oblong plate of dark color with curved edges so that a map can fit into it.

This sword can be used in a trick in which the deck is thrown up and the chosen card is caught by the conjurer's hand.

You take a regular deck and let the spectator choose a card. When a card is returned to the deck, you use the Volt to move it to the top of the deck. Now it is easy to hide in the palm of your hand. Then you throw the deck of cards up and "catch" the card hidden in your hand. It seems to the audience that you really catch it among the thrown cards, but in fact it is in your hand all the time.

Sometimes vigilant spectators may notice that the card was in your hand the whole time. By doing so, they give you a great excuse to use the magic sword.

You speak:

"It seems to you that the card is in my hand. Well, I will prove you wrong. Let someone else choose the card. Without giving me the card, please put it in the deck. Shuffle it well. Now, I hope you won't tell me that the card is in my hand, please wait a little while I take my magic sword."

With these words, you go behind the screen and take the sword. When you return, you become a swordsman and say to the spectator who has the cards:

"I will say: one! Two! Three! At the word "three" you throw the cards up, and I will catch the card you have chosen on the edge of the sword. Fan out the cards a little so I can see them better."

When the cards are thrown, at the word "three" you stand under the cards and one of them is on the tip of your sword. By removing this card from the sword, you show everyone that this is the card conceived by the spectator.

If you are not very good at forcing a card, then you need to have several of the same forced cards that are similar to the cards from your deck. About ten of these cards are enough for you.

You begin your preparations for the trick by piercing one of these cards with a penknife and threading the movable top of the blade through this hole. You do not show this sword in front of the audience, but put it so that it is at hand.

Forced cards you hide in your pocket or any other place from which it will be easy for you to get them. You put a regular deck on the table.

At the beginning of the trick, you say that you give the audience completely free choice of any card from the deck. Here you take any cards from the top of the deck and hold them in front of a spectator for selection.

In fact, you put the cards hidden in your palm on top of the cards taken from the deck, at the moment when you cover the taken cards with your right hand. After that, you let the spectator choose a card.

Without waiting for the card to be returned, you walk up to the table holding the rest of the forced cards in your left hand.

The deck of cards is in your right hand. You place the cards from your left hand on the bottom of the deck and roll. Thanks to this, forced cards will be on top, and now you can safely hide them in the palm of your right hand or put them in a pocket.

After that, you return the deck to the spectator with the card and ask him to return it to the deck. The deck can then be shuffled. While the spectator shuffles the deck, you go for the sword.

Taking the sword in your right hand, you pull back the pierced card and place it in the hilt slot. This card will now be strongly pulled back by the elastic cord, but you hold the card by pressing down on it with the ring and middle fingers of your right hand.

Now we can return to the audience. We hold the sword so that they do not see the card hidden in the handle of the sword. Throwing the cards up, you lunge with the sword in your hand and release the card hidden in the sword. She is on the edge of the sword.

Your movement under the falling cards prevents the spectators from seeing that the card was moving from bottom to top. Removing the card from the sword will tear it, so pre-cutting the card with the sword won't matter. Having removed the card, you give it to the one who chose it and lower the sword, by this you distract the attention of the audience both from the sword and from the cards lying on the floor - after all, there is also a conceived card there.

This trick can be done with three cards. Everything remains the same, but the forced deck contains three repeated cards and the holes in them must be such that they slide a little down the edge of the sword. The first should be closest to the handle, the second - a little further, and let the third remain on the tip of the sword.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>
