EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES Card volt (seven ways). Focus secret Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues The first way of the volt (two hands) Modern magic We take the deck in the left hand, by its long side, face down, i.e., as it is done when dealing. In this position, the thumb lies to the left of the deck, and the rest to the right. We put the upper joint of the little finger on those cards that should be at the top (now they are at the bottom). The remaining three fingers lie freely on top of the deck. The upper part of the deck is located between the little finger from below and the rest of the fingers from above. Cover the deck with the other hand. Now we grab the bottom half of the deck along between the middle finger on top and the thumb on the bottom. At this time, the thumb of the left hand lies slightly bent across the deck. We press the inner edge of the lower half in the place where the left thumb departs from the brush. We move the upper half of the deck outward, slightly loosening the fingers of the left hand. At the same time, we lift the outer edge of the lower half until the edges of both halves diverge. Now, by simply closing the left hand, they will fold together, but swap places. All this must be done very slowly at first, paying attention only to the correct sequence of movements. This will seem rather difficult to you, but over time, the hands will acquire the necessary dexterity, and the two halves of the deck will change places, as if passing through each other. From the outside, it looks like just a slight instantaneous squeezing and raising of hands, and the very fact of swapping parts of the deck remains invisible to the audience. If you need to put the halves of the deck face to face, then it is enough to first turn the top of the deck face up, while the moving parts of the deck are connected again. The described method of volts is the most correct. If a beginner learns to do it well, then he will not need the rest. However, it is necessary to mention other ways of the volt, although they are in every respect worse than the first. When performing a volt, you can do the following: it is best to exercise in front of a mirror. Only in this way you can evaluate how much you will be able to deceive the audience. It is equally important to get used to performing all movements without looking at your hands. The magician himself must look where he needs to direct the attention of the audience. If the spectator took the card and put it back into the deck, and the magician needs to put it on top, then for this it is enough for him to make a volt. But putting a card in a deck, the viewer, of course, looks at it. If in such a situation to make a volt, then the possibility of exposure is great. We advise you to pause and, looking at the viewer's face, ask: "Did you remember the card well?" or something similar. When you ask, the audience will naturally look you in the face and you can calmly make a volt. In the future, you will see for yourself what obvious movements can be made under the very noses of the audience, if their attention is diverted by the deft movement of the eyes and the words of the magician. The second way of the volt (two hands) We take the deck in the left hand as in the first method. With the right hand, grab half of the deck between the middle finger on top and the thumb on the bottom. We move the left thumb, which is no longer needed. We direct the lower half of the deck to the left, and the upper half down and vice versa. This is the theory behind this method. In practice, all these actions are not so distinct. Gradually, the movement from right to left should become smaller and become completely invisible. It must be kept to a minimum, and for this you must keep your hands as close to each other as possible. Make sure that the edge of the right palm is lightly but firmly attached to the three fingers of the right hand. The place of their contact should become a fulcrum for the movement of the hands. Over time, you will see that a slight rotation of the two hands on this imaginary joint (the cards must be held lightly so that it is convenient to move them) is quite enough to perform a volt. Sometimes hands can not be kept together, but on the contrary - they are specially separated. In this case, holding the cards as described above, you can make a circle, as if removing the cards, but actually shifting the bottom half instead of the top. The latter, thanks to the easy and instant unclenching of the left hand, moves away to make room for the first. It is possible to hold the cards just drawn (i.e. each half in the other hand) and make a volt by adding them together. To do this, hold the right half of the deck so that the thumb and middle fingers protrude about 2 cm above the surface of the cards. At the moment of connection of the halves (which is achieved by a lateral movement of the right hand from right to left), these fingers grab the other half and move it to the left, leaving the former right half in the left hand. With careful execution, this movement is completely invisible to the prying eye. Having made this change, you are already calmly placing the new top half on top of the bottom. The third way of the volt (two hands) It is similar to the first method, but not as elegant. We take the cards in the left hand face down. But now on those cards that should be transferred to the top of the deck, we put the middle and ring fingers, and put the index and little fingers under the deck. Now the lower half of the deck is, as it were, squeezed by convex tongs, between the middle and ring fingers from above and the index and little fingers from below. Then we cover the deck with our right hand, as in the first method. But now we take it between the index and ring fingers from above and the thumb from below the upper half of the deck. Slightly lift the top half to make room for the bottom half, at the same time slightly loosening the fingers of the left hand. In this case, the lower half describes a quarter of the circle. When the upper half no longer covers the lower one, in a reverse movement (i.e., slightly bending the fingers of the left hand and removing the right hand), both halves of the deck are again added together, but in a different order. The fourth way of the volt (left hand) We take the cards in the left hand, as in the previous methods. We put the ring finger on the cards that we want to shift up, and now they are at the bottom. We put the remaining three fingers on top of the deck, but now the ring finger takes the place of the little finger. We straighten our fingers. Due to this, the upper part of the deck describes a semicircle (see Fig. 1).
At the same time, we press the thumb down the upper left corner of the lower part. Your opposite end of the lower part will rise up, and this will allow you, when squeezing your fingers, to push the upper part of the deck into place of the lower one (see Fig. 2). Now we need to move the upper part (the one on which the six of worms is depicted) from the position shown in Fig. 1 to the position shown in Fig. 2. To do this, we tilt it slightly forward with the middle finger, and part of the deck describes, as it were, a semicircle near the nameless fingers as axles. With this movement, it turns so that the end closest to the magician becomes the far end, and the far end becomes the near one.
This method of volta has one feature that makes it particularly suitable for certain tricks. When the upper half of the deck describes a semicircle, then its lower card is clearly visible to the magician, and the audience at this time sees only the back of the deck. Thanks to this, the magician, imperceptibly to the public, recognizes the card, which, after the volt, will lie at the bottom of the deck. Note that with this method, the movement of the hands is clearly visible. But the rotation of the top half of the deck of cards is so confusing that only very astute spectators will understand what really happened. If this movement is carefully executed, then it just looks like a beautiful gesture. A quick movement of the hand from left to right during the volt masks the movement of the cards. Sometimes a volt is made in this way without turning over the top of the deck. With this method, the index finger does not participate in the movement, but is kept above the upper edge of the deck. Fifth way of volt (left hand) This method is the same as the previous one, but is performed only with the left hand. The right hand does not cover the upper half of the deck, this part of the deck is located between the top of the thumb of the left hand and its base. All other movements remain unchanged. Sixth Volt Method (either hand) We take the deck with either hand, as if we are going to put it on the edge of the table. We put the middle finger between both halves of the deck, and put the index and little fingers on it. We take the lower (upper) half of the deck by its two upper corners with the thumb and forefinger. Now, with the extension of the index, middle and ring fingers, the upper half of the deck will move. When the bottom half of the deck stops covering it, we bend our fingers again. This will put the top of the deck at the bottom. You can use this volte method when you put your cards on the table. Moving cards here hides the last move. If you do not have a table nearby, then a quick movement of the hand from right to left, at the moment of the volt, also masks this movement well. Seventh way of volt (right hand) We consider this method the most unfortunate. We are waiting for the deck to be removed and both halves of it to be placed on the table. Then the magician takes the lower half of the deck (the one that, after being removed, should be placed on top). The magician takes this part of the deck with the middle, ring and little fingers from below, and with the index finger from above. Pretending to put it on top, the magician tilts the right edge of the upper half forward with the end of his index finger, and with other fingers slips the lower part under it. As a result, the cards are in the same position as before the withdrawal.
