Focus Description:

There is a round box with a lid on the stage. A magician comes out from behind the scenes. He is wearing wide harem pants, and a turban is on his head. And we immediately recognize in him a fakir - a snake tamer! He removes the lid from the box, picks up a pipe and begins to play a simple melody. And under her sounds, a snake slowly rises from the box. Higher, higher... But no one is afraid, because the snake is not real: it is just a bright scarf, tied at the end with a knot that looks like a snake's head. The audience is, of course, surprised. Interesting all the same - a live scarf! The fakir stops playing and the "snake" falls into the box.

The speech is over. The fakir covers the box with a lid and takes it off the stage.

The thing is that the fakir has two faithful assistants. But before we tell what their role is, let's prepare everything for the focus. Let's make a "snake" first. To do this, take a bright scarf and tie a knot in the shape of a snake's head at one of its ends. Then we will thread a thin black thread into the knot (preferably a nylon thread, since it is less noticeable). It should be long, the whole scene, and even a little more.

So, the assistants, taking the ends of the thread in their hands, stand backstage on different sides of the stage, and the audience does not see them. When the magician begins to play a melody, the assistants pull the thread, and the "snake" raises its head. The melody has ended, the assistants have loosened the tension of the thread, and the handkerchief disappears into the box.

To perform this trick, it is necessary to check the thread for strength and pay special attention to the consistency of the actions of the performer and his assistants.

Isolation experiment to simulate life on Mars 01.09.2015

The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) announced the start of another isolation experiment to simulate flight and life on Mars.

This time, six volunteers - three men and three women - will spend exactly one year away from civilization. They will live and work in a specially equipped module, which is a dome with a diameter of 11 meters and a height of 6 meters. Each of the team members has their own small room with a bed and a desk.

The dome is mounted near the dormant Mauna Loa volcano in the Hawaiian Islands. This area was not chosen by chance: local landscapes vaguely resemble the Martian landscape - there is practically no vegetation around, and large animals bypass this area.

The team included an astrobiologist from France, a physicist from Germany, and a pilot, architect, medical/journalist and soil scientist from the United States. During the isolation experiment, participants will only be able to leave the module in space suits. The diet will be sublimated and canned foods. Communication with the outside world will take place over the Internet with limited access.

It is expected that the experiment will help in the study of medical and psychological problems that the crew of the ship may encounter during the flight and stay on the Red Planet.
