Focus Description:

The "underground economy" of the illusionist in the circus serves to implement the simplest ways of substitution, disappearance or appearance in any number. The magician's work in this case differs sharply from the so-called work "on the carpet", where the equipment does not communicate with the floor in any way, and is usually installed on stands, legs, to emphasize the lack of connection with the "underground" passages. When using underground devices, the apparatus can also be externally seemingly isolated from the floor, as we saw in the example with "New Year's clock", in fact, the stand and the shield mask its connection with the secret passage.

On fig. 203 we give a simple schematic diagram of the location of passages and hatches in the circus. A - a large hatch located behind the forgang, single-leaf, on strong hinges.

The manhole cover fits into a very strong frame and is flush with the floor. It is made, like all the others, very strong, based on a possible large load (elephants, horses, etc.). From the hatch, the passage leads under the floor of the backstage part and under the platform for the exit of the artists, passes under the arena and, having moved about two meters from the barrier, branches to three hatches: B - almost in the center of the arena, C - left (from the main entrance) and D - right , on the side of the exit. Hatches B, C and D open down and have a single-leaf shield. From below, the hatch is locked with strong locks - latches, bolts.

From above, the door is very carefully upholstered with several layers of thick tarpaulin to muffle the sound, for example, when jumping. The top of the hatch is made 4-5 cm below the level of the arena and carefully covered with a layer of sawdust on top. According to the location of the hatches, a special floor was made of well-fitted boards fastened with slats. The floor is well primed and painted with intricate drawings that mask the hatches very well.

All floor hatches open down, their covers fit perfectly into the open lower hatches of the arena, without interfering with the movement of assistants. The floor is made in the form of separate large shields. Laying it usually begins with any one hatch. A special assistant carefully aligns the hatches of the shield and the arena.

For greater clarity, we give Fig. 204, which shows a small floor of 1 shields on a scale of 100: 11. It turns out a floor with an area of approximately 7x7 m with shield No. 1, which is made with a semicircular hatch B; the other two hatches - A and B - can be very different both in pattern and in shape.

The numbers indicate the shields in the order in which they are laid. A specially made applique carpet is laid around the floor, and the barrier is covered with the same matching path. The whole installation looks very colorful, and the small, well-painted floor does not arouse much suspicion from the unsophisticated viewer.

It should be noted that communication passages must be securely fenced on all sides with strong shields to prevent the earth from sliding. After the floor is installed, the assistant opens the necessary hatches in the arena and then carefully removes all the sawdust that has fallen down from the hatch cover. The communication passages are always well lit by a special remote electrical wiring.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Pivothead SMART smart glasses 01.01.2014

The Indiegogo crowdfunding platform has successfully funded the Pivothead SMART "smart" glasses project with a modular design.

The idea is to give users the ability to connect additional blocks that expand the functionality of the device. These modules are connected to the shackles through the end connectors.

The specification of the basic version of Pivothead SMART provides for an ARM processor, 4 GB of RAM, a 16 GB flash drive, a Bluetooth LE wireless module, an 8-megapixel camera, and a microUSB port. There are two LED strips on the inside of the frame.

The developers of the novelty have designed three expansion modules. One of them, called the Fuel Mod, is designed to increase battery life with an additional 1000 mAh battery. The Live Mod block allows you to broadcast a 1080p video stream, say, to a personal computer: data is transmitted via Wi-Fi wireless communication. In addition, this module has an integrated microSD card slot. Finally, the Air Mod is essentially an additional Android-based mini-computer. It is equipped with a 7 GHz dual-core ARM Cortex A1,3 processor, Wi-Fi adapter, microSD slot, gyroscope, accelerometer, magnetometer, NFC chip and GPS navigation system receiver.

So far, over $130 has been raised on Indiegogo instead of the originally planned $100. A complete Pivothead SMART kit with expansion modules can now be purchased for $410 (retail price will be approximately $630). Deliveries will be arranged in April 2014.
