Focus Description:

The performer puts a box filled with matches on his right hand (Fig. 127, A), and the box suddenly opens by itself (Fig. 127, B). At the same time, the magician makes passes over it with his left hand. He closes the box and again makes passes over it: it slowly rises to a vertical position and just as slowly falls (Fig. 127, B). This is repeated several times. Then, having risen vertically, the box opens by itself (Fig. 127, D), and the illusionist closes it with his left hand. The box slowly rests on the palm of the right hand.

The secret of the trick lies in the box, which can be raised, lowered and opened with the help of threads.

Figure 128, B depicts an open box; on the left - the inner retractable part, which is filled with matches; below you can see a lead weight placed on the bottom, to which a thread is attached in the middle upper part; then it goes to the outer box, passes over its rear part and from the inside enters the hole in the box; then the thread again passes through the hole in the bottom of the outer box, from there it goes out and ends there in a small loop.

For display, the inner box is inserted into the outer box, and the thread is carefully pulled out. Now, if you pull the loop, the inner box will rise up. With the help of a thread, you can raise or lower the box at will. She will "obey" all the magician's orders.

It is clear that the thread running along the top of the outer box must be masked: a label is stuck on it. But you need to be careful not to accidentally stick a thread to the box, which should move very freely. A box of matches (internal), under the influence of a lead weight placed in it, will easily fall down (close).

All manipulations with the box should be performed simply and naturally. Just in case, it is desirable to have a double box, which, after the performance is shown, exchanged for a dissected one, can be given to the audience for inspection.
