Focus Description:

The magician, having shuffled a deck of cards, takes one and gets confused to put it upright on the table. The card falls. But after several "magical" passes, the card stands right on the table, and the audience can clearly distinguish its suit. The performer, taking a glass of wine, drinks some wine and puts the glass on the card. At first it sways, but then "under the influence of the passes" of the illusionist, the glass is fixed motionlessly on the card (Fig. 77, A).

Props:

A glass filled with wine.

A simple deck of cards.

One card, specially prepared for the trick.

Focus secret:

The secret will be clear if we look at Fig. 77, B. It can be seen from it that the second card is half-glued to the card that the audience sees (see also fig. 77, C).

To make such a stand, two cards are taken; one of them is bent in half in length, half is smeared with glue and glued in length to the speck of another card. Put under pressure and dry well. The glued card is then folded and placed at right angles to the front card. Putting the cards together, they are put into the deck. At the right moment, the magician draws this double card. At the beginning, she falls several times. Then the performer imperceptibly bends back half of the second card, which gives stability to the first one, visible to the audience. It stands firmly on the table, and you can put a glass of wine on top of it.

After several rehearsals, it is easy to convince the audience that this trick is difficult and requires special, incomprehensible actions from the magician.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Blueberries against hypertension 11.03.2015

A few years ago, it was noticed that daily consumption of blueberries and blueberries helps to lower blood pressure. However, in those experiments, the dose of berries (in the form of a dried powder) was large, it corresponded to 50 to 250 grams of fresh berries. Now, researchers at the University of Florida, led by Sarah Johnson, have studied the effect of a much smaller dose - just one cup, or 22 grams of berries per day. True, again, not fresh berries, but made from blueberry powder, which was obtained by lyophilization.

The experiments involved 48 elderly women with the first signs of hypertension. Half of the participants were given berry powder, while the other half were given a placebo. Eight weeks later, pressure readings and vascular stiffness were compared. For those who ate blueberries, it turned out to be 5-6% lower, and arterial stiffness decreased by 6,5%. At the same time, the concentration of nitric oxide (it serves as a biomarker for the dilation of blood vessels) increased by 68%. But it is the narrowing of blood vessels and the growth of their stiffness that lead to hypertension.

Johnson is going to continue his experiments, making them much longer, well, and recommends including blueberries and blueberries in your diet more often.
