EFFECTIVE FOCUSES AND THEIR CLUES Four balls. The Secret of Focus Directory / Spectacular tricks and their clues Focus Description: The magician shows both hands from all sides, they are empty. Suddenly he rolls out a small ball from under his hands (Fig. 63, A) and, taking it with two fingers of his right hand, shows it to the audience (Fig. 63, B). A slight wave of the hand - and there are already two balls in it (Fig. 63, B). Having slightly adjusted the top ball and moved it between the middle and ring fingers, the illusionist turns a little and again makes a slight wave of his hand, a third ball appears in it (Fig. 63, D). The magician takes the ball that appears and moves it between the little finger and the index finger. Another wave of the hand - and there is a fourth ball in it (Fig. 63, E).
Having shown the balls to the audience, the performer looks at his hand in surprise: with a very light wave, one ball suddenly disappears and only three remain. Having adjusted the ball in his hand, the magician fixes the audience's attention on it. Again a barely noticeable wave - and another ball disappears. Now there are only two left. Having corrected them, the magician again lightly waves his hand - only one ball remains. The illusionist shows it from all sides to the audience and lightly waves his right hand - two balls are again visible in it. He takes one of them in his hand and, bringing the ball to his mouth, swallows it; shows his cheek, behind which a ball is clearly visible, then “swallows” it and... smiling, takes it out from under the bottom edge of his vest. He inserts the ball into his right hand and shows the audience that he has two balls in his hand. Turning slightly, he again shows that there is only one ball left, and when turning, he “managed” to send the second one somewhere. Bringing his left hand under his knee, the performer takes out the “missing” ball from there and puts it back in his right hand. Wave your hand - only one ball remains; the magician places it from his right to his left palm, clenches it into a fist and, turning, throws the ball up with the same hand - and it disappears. Showing both hands empty, the illusionist moves on to perform the next trick. Props: Four polished wooden balls. The size of the balls is from 35 to 40 mm (depending on the size of the magician’s palm). The cover for the ball is wooden, polished as well as the balls, or metal, extruded and painted exactly to match the color of the balls (Fig. 64, E). In Fig. 64, F you can see how the tire is put on the ball. Focus secret: The secret to the trick is the tire. It is a hemisphere with a carved middle. Spectators mistake this thin “shell” for a whole ball if shown from the convex side. In Fig. 64, And you seem to see two balls, but in reality there is only one ball and a tire (Fig. 64, H). Here is the reverse side of the moment shown in Fig. 64, I.
Preparation and display. The magician places all four balls in convenient and accessible places of the costume - under the neckline of the vest, in special pockets, etc. You can also practice this trick perfectly by putting all four balls in the left trouser pocket. The tire can be hidden under the lower cutout of the vest or simply palmed in the left palm. Showing both hands empty, the performer rolls out a tire from his left hand (Fig. 63, A), which the audience takes for a ball (Fig. 63, B). The same moment is shown in Fig. 65, K on the opposite side.
The audience sees only one ball (actually a tire), while in the left palm the magician holds a whole ball, which he quietly inserts into the tire, using a suitable distraction - a slight wave of the hand or a slight turn of the body. Now you can show the ball from all sides; no one will notice that he is wearing a thin tire. All manipulations are masked by a slight rotation of the body. With a wave of his hand, the illusionist places his right index finger under the ball and with a slight movement brings it out of the shell (Fig. 64, H and I). Having shown the audience two balls (actually a tire and a ball), the magician, using a slight twist, at this time takes out another ball and palms it in his left palm. Then he brings his left hand to his right, as if wanting to correct the top ball in order to move it to another position (Fig. 65, M), and he himself manages to put the palmed ball into the empty shell. This moment is captured in Fig. 65, And from the side from where the manipulation cannot be seen by the audience. Now the performer has two balls in his hand (as the audience sees), but in fact there are two balls with a shell-tyre on one of them. The magician now may not touch his right hand. The ball can be removed from the tire in this way (Fig. 66, O). With the ring finger, the upper ball is moved away from the index finger and placed between the ring and index fingers; following this middle finger, the ball rolls out of the tire and is placed between the index and middle fingers (the moment of rolling is shown in Fig. 66, P). Note that both drawings were made from a side not visible to the audience in order to more clearly show the “technique” of the trick.
It seems to the audience that the illusionist has three balls in his hand (in fact, there are two and a tire). Using a twist, the magician takes out the third ball and, adjusting it, inserts it into the tire (Fig. 66, P). Now the magician can show all three balls on both sides. Then he takes the ball located between the index and middle fingers, and with his left hand inserts it between the little and ring fingers (Fig. 66, C); the balls are held in the hand as shown in Fig. 66, T. Now everything is ready for the appearance of the fourth ball, for which a place has been prepared between the index and middle fingers. All that remains is to remove the ball from under the tire - and the audience will see four balls (in fact, three balls and a tire). This situation is shown by us in Fig. 66, U on the opposite side. If the magician wants to show all four balls on both sides, he needs to quietly remove the fourth ball and insert it into an empty tire. Then everything goes in reverse with one change: when you “correct” the ball, you do not insert it into the tire, but take it out of it and hide it in your pocket or other place. Author: Vadimov A.A.
