The first method

Focus Description:

The magician shows the audience a curtain cord about 2,5 m long. The audience carefully examines it, checking the integrity and trying to break. The performer takes the cord (in each hand at the end), then intercepts the end from the right hand with the left and holds both ends with one hand (Fig. 220).

Focus Cut Lace (Three Ways)
Fig. 220

With the right hand, he takes the bottom of the formed loop at point 4 and passes the loop from the right to the left hand. Then he takes the lace with his right hand and takes it away from the left, into which he has already passed the middle of the lace; invites one of the spectators to cut the lace in half (Fig. 221). He cuts it at point 2.

Focus Cut Lace (Three Ways)
Fig. 221

The illusionist releases one of the ends of the lace, and everyone sees that there are two short laces in his hand, that is, four ends (Fig. 222). One of them hangs lower than the other. The illusionist makes a playful remark to the viewer that he could not cut the shoelaces exactly in half, as he was asked.

Fig. 222

Following this, the magician takes one of the four ends (Fig. 223, 3) and ties a loop with it in the place where he holds the shoelaces with his hand. Then he shows the laces with a loop tied to them (Fig. 223). Then he takes the laces again, as shown in fig. 222, and with scissors begins to cut off ends 1 and 2 in pieces. When both ends are completely cut off, he shifts the knot into the palm of his left hand and clamps it into a fist, and with his right he takes one end and quickly and strongly pulls. The lace is intact! It is allowed to be viewed by the audience.

Props:

White curtain cord with a thickness of 3 to 5 mm and a length of about 2,5 m.

Ordinary sharp scissors.

Focus secret:

The secret is simple, but the execution requires careful practice. The secret lies in the fact that the viewer cuts the lace not in the middle, but at one of the ends of the lace 2, cutting off only a small end of thirty centimeters. To make it clearer, follow the entire course of the trick demonstration in more detail.

1. The performer shows the string to the audience.

2. Holds the lace, folding it in half (see Fig. 220).

3. Passes the end (loop) of the lace, taking it at point 4 to the left hand. This is the most crucial moment of the number. What actually happens is the following. The illusionist, taking the loop (at point 4), puts it to the lace 1; holding the loop 4 with the thumb of the left hand, with the other hand he takes the cord 2 below the finger and takes the cord to the side, to the right (see Fig. 224). On fig. 224 shows the same moment as in fig. 221, just for clarity, we raised the thumb of the left hand, exposing the lace. Now it is clear that the viewer, cutting the lace at point 2, cuts off only a small end from it.

We continue further.

4. The viewer cuts the cord at point 2, and the magician immediately releases end 3 from his hand (see Fig. 222).

5. The illusionist takes cord 5 at point A with his right hand and, having made a loop, bending the cord on his index finger, throws it through ends 1 and 2. Then pulls them down so that it seems to the audience that end 1 serves as a continuation of the cord with an end 3, and end 2 is a continuation of lace 5. It should not be noticeable that ends 1 and 2 are separate. Having tightened the loop, the magician shows the string to the audience (see Fig. 223).

6. The performer takes the node again in the same way as shown in fig. 222, and, taking the scissors with his right hand, gradually cut off the ends 1 and 2. At the same time, he imperceptibly pulls out the piece of laces 1-2 with scissors, which remained tied inside the loop.

7. The illusionist takes the remaining knot, holding it in his left hand, and with his right hand intercepts cord 2 at point A and pulls hard. The loop tied on the lace is untied, and it seems to the audience that the lace cut in half has been restored.

second method

Focus Description:

Spectators are given a string to inspect. After that, the magician takes one end of the lace 2 (Fig. 225), pinches it between the thumb and forefinger of the right hand, and the second end 1 is between the thumb, index and middle fingers of the left hand. The middle of the lace hangs down in a loop.

Focus Cut Lace (Three Ways)
Fig. 225

The illusionist joins both hands together. Brings the right hand to the palm of the left, thereby placing the end of the lace 2 at a right angle to the end 1, which is clamped in the left hand. He drags the lace until half of it passes into his left hand. At the same time, the performer passes the middle finger of the left hand into the loop (see Fig. 225). Leads the right hand further, lowers it down and brings it to the left hand. Here he grabs the string at point 3, near the left hand, and takes his right hand away from it at a distance of about 20 cm (Fig. 226).

Focus Cut Lace (Three Ways)
Fig. 226

The magician asks the viewer to cut the string in half, between the hands at point 4, which he does. Then the illusionist releases the laces from his right hand and holds two laces in his left, as in the previous trick (see Fig. 222). Then, again in the same way, tie a knot with one of the long ends of the lace and cut off the short ends with scissors. Suddenly, quickly and sharply stretches the lace - it turns out to be intact.

Props:

Curtain cord about 2,5 m long.

Scissors.

Focus secret:

The secret is clear from Fig. 227, A. Here is the same moment as in fig. 226, only the fingers are shown in phantom.

Focus Cut Lace (Three Ways)
Fig. 227

The lace is cut at point 4. After that, the fingers of the right hand are immediately unclenched, and the ends of the lace 2 and 3, obtained after cutting, hang down (Fig. 227, B). On fig. The lace is shown stretched after the knot is tied.

For a change, the knot can not be cut off with scissors, but, taking the entire lace in the palm of your left hand, begin to slowly pull it out of your clamped palm, making sure that the knot (for this it should not be tightened too much) goes unnoticed. The string is pulled out of the palm and given to the audience for inspection, and the remaining ends with the knot are hidden in the palm of your hand and discreetly placed in your pocket or elsewhere.

If the audience notices that the lace has become shorter after cutting, you can show another way to perform this number, in which the length of the lace does not change.

A third method

Focus Description:

The magician shows the audience a string and. giving a centimeter, asks to measure its length. One of the spectators does it.

Taking the string with his left hand, the performer folds it in half and passes it to his right hand (Fig. 228, A). He then asks the viewer to cut the string in half at the location indicated by the number 1, which he does.

Focus Cut Lace (Three Ways)
Fig. 228

The magician takes the top of the two laces resulting from cutting, and gradually takes them into the palm of his left hand. Then he begins to slowly pull out the lace, taking its end with his right hand. Slowly the entire lace is removed from the left clamped palm. The palm also slowly opens. There is nothing in it. The lace is intact and is given for inspection. It is measured: its length is the same as before cutting.

Props:

Curtain cord about 2,5 m long.

Scissors and centimeter.

Focus secret:

The secret is that the illusionist in advance imperceptibly holds in his right hand a piece of lace 20-30 cm long, which is folded in a loop. At the moment of transferring the lace, folded along the floor, from one hand to the other, the magician imperceptibly pushes up the loop of the short lace P, which he hid in his right hand. With the right thumb closes the end of the loop and the top of the loop of a long lace (Fig. 228, B). The hand is shown as a dotted line. On fig. 228, B shows both loops without a finger.

In citing the drawings of all three methods, we did not observe the scale of the lace, trying to show more clearly the way this trick was performed.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

The Greenland ice sheet is melting catastrophically 08.04.2023

Scientists are becoming increasingly concerned about tipping points for climate change. In a new study, they identified two such tipping points for the melting of the 1,7 million square kilometer Greenland ice sheet and the second largest ice storage after Antarctica.

According to scientists' simulations, the release of 1000 gigatonnes of carbon into the atmosphere will lead to the complete melting of the southern part of the ice sheet. With emissions of 2500 gigatons, the entire ice sheet will melt irrevocably.

Since human activity began to noticeably affect the climate, 500 gigatonnes of carbon have been released into the atmosphere. This means that we are already halfway to losing a large number of the Greenland ice sheet.

"The first point of no return is not far from today's climate conditions, so we run the risk of crossing it. Once we start sliding, we will fall off this cliff and will not be able to climb back," said climate scientist Dennis Henning from the Potsdam Institute for Climate Research in Germany.

The scientists conducted complex modeling that took into account all the key climatic processes and factors affecting the melting of ice, including air and water temperature, ocean current activity and precipitation.

Even keeping the 1,5-degree Celsius temperature increase mandated by the Paris climate agreement would not be enough to prevent the Greenland ice sheet from melting, the researchers said.

Scientists also add that at the level of carbon emissions within 1000 gigatons, the sea level will rise by 1,8 meters, if they reach 2500 gigatons - by 6,9 meters.

Unfortunately, there are no signs of reducing emissions yet. Between 2003 and 2016, the Greenland ice sheet lost 255 gigatonnes of ice each year. A recent study showed that the island is losing ice at a much faster rate than previously thought. And this leads to sea level rise and other problems.
