Focus Description:

This is a very beautiful trick that creates the effect of a blooming flower. To show this trick, you will need 20-25 multi-colored scarves. It is desirable that they be of different shades of colors and different shades of the same color. For example, starting from dark purple, gradually moving to blue, crimson, red and ending with light yellow. Sew shot or other cargo into the corners of scarves.

The secret of the trick is in folding the scarves.

We put the scarves one on top of the other so that the corner of the top scarf falls on the side of the bottom one. Shawls are arranged by color: from dark one color to light, gradually moving to another color. The size of the bottom scarves should be large compared to the top (inner). Each 2 scarves should differ in size from the previous ones by 0,5 cm. We sew the centers of all the scarves so that when the flower "opens" they do not fall to the floor.

New battery cell is 7 times denser than lithium-ion cells 02.08.2014

A team of scientists from the University of Tokyo, working in collaboration with specialists from Nippon Shokubai, has succeeded in creating a new battery cell that is superior to existing ones.

The operation of the new cell is based on a redox reaction between oxide ions and peroxide ions at the positive electrode. The project participants were able to confirm in practice the performance of the new system, showing that peroxides are formed and destroyed in the process of charging and discharging on a positive electrode formed from the crystal structure of lithium oxide with the addition of cobalt.

The new cell is said to have seven times the energy density of existing lithium-ion battery cells. The development will increase the capacity of batteries, reduce their cost and improve safety. The new technology is expected to be used in next-generation electric vehicle batteries and stationary batteries.

The theoretical specific capacity is 897 mAh per 1 g of the active substance of the electrode, the cell voltage is 2,87 V, and the energy density is 2570 Wh/kg.

So far, it has been practically possible to obtain an energy density of 370 Wh/kg. For comparison, currently produced batteries have an energy density of about 50-55 Wh/kg. Note that lithium-air batteries have a maximum theoretical energy density of 3460 Wh, but the new batteries are safer and more practical because they have a sealed structure.

It remains to add that the operation of new batteries is not associated with the release of oxygen or carbon dioxide, which makes them environmentally attractive.
