Focus Description:

Invite three spectators to the stage and show them a slate board divided by partitions into six identical squares.

Invite the first viewer to conceive and draw on the board in the first upper square one of the geometric shapes. But first, draw something yourself in the lower square and cover the image with a piece of paper, attaching it with a clothespin. Pass the board to the first spectator. He draws a square.

Invite the second viewer to think of some letter of the alphabet and draw it in the middle upper square. And again, before anything, write with chalk yourself and cover it with a piece of paper on a clothespin in the middle lower square. The second viewer draws the letter "M".

Invite the third viewer to write in the last upper square the name of some playing card and again draw it yourself and close it with a sheet. When the viewer writes the name of the card, take the board in your hands and, showing the rest of the audience, remove the sheets one by one. The images in the upper squares will match the images in the lower ones - the ones you made beforehand.

Focus secret:

The secret of the trick is a board with a secret, inside of which three boards are hidden (fig. a). The first - the upper one - is solid, it is tightly fixed. The second - small, the size of a square - moves along the grooves from edge to edge. The third one - two squares in size - also moves along the grooves (along the second track). The rail passing in the middle has three clothespins.

Focus Miraculous Coincidence

One of the spectators is a figurehead. He knows in advance what he needs to write "6 spades" on the board. During the trick, turn the board towards you and write with chalk in the lower left square "6 spades", then close the entry with a piece of paper, attaching it to a clothespin (Fig. b).

Focus Miraculous Coincidence

The first viewer draws in the upper left corner, for example, a square. You then draw a square in the middle bottom square and close it with a piece of paper. The second viewer writes a letter, for example "M". Then you draw the letter "M" in the lower right square and close it with a piece of paper.

The last spectator - a figurehead - writes the name of the card "6 spades". Taking the board and turning it towards you, slide the movable boards under the paper with your thumbs, that is, the left small one will now be on the right, and the other on the other side. When the sheets are removed at the end of the trick, the notes made by you and the audience will match.

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

The threat of space debris to the Earth's magnetic field 01.05.2024

More and more often we hear about an increase in the amount of space debris surrounding our planet. However, it is not only active satellites and spacecraft that contribute to this problem, but also debris from old missions. The growing number of satellites launched by companies like SpaceX creates not only opportunities for the development of the Internet, but also serious threats to space security. Experts are now turning their attention to the potential implications for the Earth's magnetic field. Dr. Jonathan McDowell of the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics emphasizes that companies are rapidly deploying satellite constellations, and the number of satellites could grow to 100 in the next decade. The rapid development of these cosmic armadas of satellites can lead to contamination of the Earth's plasma environment with dangerous debris and a threat to the stability of the magnetosphere. Metal debris from used rockets can disrupt the ionosphere and magnetosphere. Both of these systems play a key role in protecting the atmosphere and maintaining ... >>

Solidification of bulk substances 30.04.2024

There are quite a few mysteries in the world of science, and one of them is the strange behavior of bulk materials. They may behave like a solid but suddenly turn into a flowing liquid. This phenomenon has attracted the attention of many researchers, and we may finally be getting closer to solving this mystery. Imagine sand in an hourglass. It usually flows freely, but in some cases its particles begin to get stuck, turning from a liquid to a solid. This transition has important implications for many areas, from drug production to construction. Researchers from the USA have attempted to describe this phenomenon and come closer to understanding it. In the study, the scientists conducted simulations in the laboratory using data from bags of polystyrene beads. They found that the vibrations within these sets had specific frequencies, meaning that only certain types of vibrations could travel through the material. Received ... >>

Why is a teddy bear dangerous? 09.05.2006

Plush toys can accumulate potentially dangerous air pollution.

The stuffing of these toys is almost identical to materials used in chemical laboratories to clean the air of harmful gases and then analyze them, says Caitlin Gorbitt of Chatham College in the UK. She and her colleagues examined the outer fabric and padding of 11 soft toys, testing for 13 pesticides and 7 flame retardants.

Most toys contained a wide range of chemicals with the greatest concentration on the outside rather than in the stuffing. It is possible that the toys were sprayed with fire extinguishers during manufacture, and "during operation" they absorbed other pollutants from the air. The content of toxins in toys made using recycled materials is especially high.

Most toys even contained remnants of the long-banned insecticide DDT. Apparently, soft toys should be washed regularly.
