Focus Description:

With a small transparent bottle - 0,25 l - in one hand and a cigarette in the other, approach the viewer sitting in a jacket.

Throw a cigarette inside the bottle and, pushing one side of the spectator's jacket, lower the bottle with the cigarette into his inside pocket. Then open his side pocket of his jacket and see if there is a cigarette in there. Now ask the viewer to look in the side pocket.

It will contain a cigarette, which he takes out. And this is the same cigarette that was in the bottle in his inside jacket pocket. Pulling out the bottle, the viewer will see that it is empty!

Focus secret:

Before lowering the bottle into the inside pocket of the spectator, quickly turn it upside down with the same hand and let the cigarette fall into the palm of your hand. Under the cover of the floor of the jacket, this will not be noticeable. Leave the bottle in your pocket in the normal position.

Pushing the side pocket away as if to check, discreetly lower the same cigarette hidden in the same hand into it. The viewer will find it in his side pocket and, of course, will not see it in the bottle.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Improvement of iOLED technology 12.07.2016

As you know, the weak point of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels is their fragility. Back in 2013, NHK figured out how to deal with the fragility of OLED. They changed the structure of the display by swapping the anode and cathode layers, and added a protective layer on top of the cathode. This prevented the destruction due to oxidation, leading to a drop in the brightness of the OLED. Moreover, since we are talking about oxidation, the brightness is maintained even if the display does not have a sealed design. The development, carried out jointly with Nippon Shokubai, received the designation iOLED (i - from inverted, "inverted").

Unfortunately, the first iOLED prototype had another drawback - the organic material used in it was destroyed by the current. As a result, the service life was even shorter than conventional OLED panels.

Last year, an iOLED display with extended life on a film substrate was created. True, it had to increase the supply voltage from 3,9 V to 5,6 V, sacrificing the internal quantum efficiency, which decreased from 100% to 70%. A prototype full-color iOLED display shown last year, it was on all the time (video was displayed on it), and recently it was demonstrated again to show that it has not lost its functionality in a year.

In addition, the manufacturer demonstrated a new red iOLED device, which uses a different organic material, which made it possible to reduce the voltage to 3,7 V. At the same time, the internal quantum efficiency returned to 100%. In the bottom illustration, the old and new LEDs are supplied with the same voltage so that you can compare the brightness. The service life of the novelty is estimated at no less than 10 hours. Now, the task for NHK specialists is to accelerate the development of green and blue iOLEDs with the same service life.
