Biostar Accessory for Cryptocurrency Mining

Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin have not been mined using graphics cards for a long time - such mining is unprofitable and will not even pay off the electricity spent on powering several accelerators. But there are many alternative solutions, a number of which are still profitable to mine using video cards or even central processors.

Biostar is one of the few companies that supports this group of enthusiasts by releasing boards with multiple PCIe x1 slots and additional power supply for the PCI Express power section. The new accessory is also intended for owners of crypto-farms and for those who are just planning to start mining "electronic gold".

A board called Crypto Mining Card allows you to use one PCI Express x1 slot to connect four video cards at once using special extension cables. It can turn even a modest Micro-ATX motherboard into a fairly developed cryptocurrency mining farm, since the bandwidth of the PCIe interface does not matter at all in this matter. Technically, this is a small adapter with a switch chip on board and four USB 3.0 connectors, which are not, but are connectors for extenders equipped with mechanical PCIe x16 slots. A connection error is likely to lead to disastrous consequences - failure of the card itself or a USB drive connected by mistake.

There is also a standard four-pin connector for connecting the power supply, which is necessary in this case, because the electrical part of the PCIe x1 slot will serve four accelerators at once. Contrary to expectations, the device is not universal, but only compatible with a limited list of Biostar motherboards: RACING H170GT3, GAMING H170T, Hi-Fi H170S3H, Hi-Fi B150S1, Hi-Fi B150S1 D4 and TB150 PRO. It is quite possible that it will work with other boards as well, unless Biostar places some kind of driver level limitation.

Declared support for up to eight graphics accelerators per system board; theoretically, you can try to install more, but such a bundle will only work in a Linux environment.
