Compact H-bridge IC for low voltage drives

24.05.2016

Toshiba Electronics Europe has introduced a new product in its H-bridge (H-shaped) driver IC series for brushed DC motors and stepper motors. TC78H620FNG is suitable for battery-powered mobile devices such as fans and small printers, as well as home appliances.

The new IC uses a four-port interface control method with Phase and Enable signals. Only three ports are required for control, unlike previous devices that required all four ports to implement full stepper motor control. Thanks to this, it becomes possible to solve the problem of the lack of a sufficient number of microcontroller control ports, the company explained.

The TC78H620FNG driver is compatible with low voltage drives (motor drive: 2,5V and above, logic control: 2,7V and above), so it can be used in mobile devices powered by a 3,7V Li-ion battery drive .It is possible to control two DC commutator motors or one stepper motor. The maximum standby current draw of 1µA helps to reduce power consumption.

Toshiba's new driver comes in a compact SSOP16 package that requires a smaller footprint and reduces PCB size and cost, the company said. Built-in motor protection and safety features include overcurrent detection, thermal shutdown and low voltage lockout. In addition, through current protection provides motor control without having to consider dead time when turning the outputs on and off.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Unmanned electric gyrocar 11.06.2018

The Chinese company Beijing Lingyun Intelligent Technology from Beijing has developed an autonomous two-wheeled electric vehicle Lingyun 1703 with a body balancing system.

Lingyun 1703 resembles a motorcycle covered with a streamlined body: it has only two wheels, one seat inside and as many as two doors to climb into it from the left or right - whichever is more convenient. The length of the gyrocar is three meters, the width is only a meter. Its main feature is that a gyroscope is installed under the only seat, which allows the electric car to maintain a horizontal position.

In order for the Lingyun 1703 to maintain balance even when parked, the engineers additionally equipped it with retractable wheels that are located under the doors. Since the gyrocar is designed for autonomous movement, there are no traditional controls in its cabin: only the entertainment system screen is installed in front of the only passenger. The maximum speed is 100 km / h, the power reserve on one charge is about 100 kilometers.

The creator of the Chinese gyrocar, Zhu Lin-yong, claims that he was inspired by the 1961 Ford Gyron concept when creating it. If all plans to attract investors are implemented (first he found 470 thousand dollars, then 10 million, now he needs to find another 30 million), Lin-Yong hopes to organize mass production of Lingyun 1703 at a price of about 15 thousand dollars with an output of 5-10 thousand cars per year.
