ASUS X99-WS/IPMI motherboard with remote control system

07.10.2015

Expressions such as "remote control" when applied to motherboards can cause ordinary users to misunderstand and even resent a hypothetical attack on privacy, but in large companies where hundreds and thousands of servers and workstations work simultaneously, the life of system administrators without appropriate technologies was would be a real hell. ASUS has announced a new X99-WS/IPMI workstation board equipped with the ASMB8-iKVM remote management module.

ASMB8 allows you to not only monitor the system status and manage its power, but also get full access to the image displayed on the monitor, including the BIOS settings interface or Windows Blue Screen of Death. Despite the fact that ASUS X99-WS/IPMI is not positioned as a gaming or overclocking board, it has a proprietary version of the LGA 2011-3 connector with an increased number of pins, the so-called ASUS OC Socket. All processors with this interface are supported, including the Intel Xeon E5-1600 v3 and Xeon E5-2600 v3.

Today, the processor imposes restrictions on the use of memory, so support for registered DDR4 modules with ECC is declared only for Xeon processors. In other cases, conventional, unbuffered DDR4 memory without error correction is supported, with a maximum capacity of up to 128 GB. The frequency of modules in overclocked mode can reach 3200 MHz. The configuration of peripheral devices also depends on the processor: in models with 40 lanes of PCIe 3.0, all five full-size slots can work in an x8 configuration, with 28 lanes there are a number of restrictions on the configuration and number of active PCIe slots.

You can connect up to 8 drives with SATA 3.0 interface, one with SATA Express interface, or use the M.2 connector that shares bandwidth with SATA Express. The network subsystem is represented by a pair of Intel i210-AT controllers, an additional LAN port is used for remote control.

The control system itself is based on a combination of the well-known ASPEED AST2400 chip and the proprietary IPMI 2.0 ASMB8-iKVM key. The sound part is not forgotten either: it is implemented on the Realtek ALC1150 controller, complemented by high-quality operational amplifiers. Claimed signal-to-noise ratio of 109 dB. The board has a standard ATX form factor, but the mounting holes follow the EEB standard.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Electronic helmet for truck drivers 14.04.2024

Road safety, especially for drivers of heavy construction equipment, is a top priority for engineers and scientists. In light of this, the German Fraunhofer Institute for Structural Strength and System Reliability has introduced a new product - an electronic helmet, which is designed to protect drivers from serious injury when driving construction vehicles. A new electronic helmet developed by a team of engineers from the Fraunhofer Institute opens up new perspectives for the safety of truck and construction equipment drivers. The device is capable of monitoring the level of shaking in the car cabin and warning the driver of possible danger. The basis of the helmet's operation is a built-in piezoelectric sensor, which generates electricity during physical deformation. This mechanism allows the device to respond to intense vibrations typical of construction equipment. When the level of deformation exceeds safe values, an alarm system is activated on the helmet, ... >>

Antivitamins instead of antibiotics 13.04.2024

The problem of bacterial resistance to antibiotics is becoming increasingly serious, posing a threat to the effective treatment of infections. In light of this, researchers are looking for new ways to combat superbugs. One of the promising directions is the use of antivitamins that can have an antibacterial effect. Antivitamins, although known as the opposite of vitamins, have proven to be a promising tool in the fight against bacterial antibiotic resistance. A study conducted by scientists from the University of Göttingen in Germany confirmed their potential in creating new drugs to combat dangerous infections. With the rise of antibiotic-resistant superbugs, there is a need to find alternative treatments. Antivitamins are molecules similar to vitamins, but capable of inhibiting bacterial activity without harm to the human body. At the moment, science knows only three antivitamins: rose ... >>

Miniature Digital MEMS Microphone MP43DT05 26.08.2018

STMicroelectronics' new MP34DT05TR-A digital microphone is designed for audio applications that require small footprint, high sound quality and wide dynamic range. The MP34DT05TR-A features a high sensitivity of -26 dBFS +-3 dB and a good signal-to-noise ratio of 64 dB.

The top entry port simplifies PCB design as no hole under the microphone is required to receive sound pressure. Due to the internal processing of the analog signal, a device with a digital microphone is less susceptible to interference and interference.

The MP34DT05TR-A microphone operates at 1,6V to 3,6V and has a low consumption of 650µA. The output signal is a PDM digital stream with a clock frequency of 1,2 to 3,25 MHz (set by the host). The microphone has an almost linear frequency response in the range from 100 to 10 Hz.

MEMS technology provides reliable microphone performance in a variety of automotive applications for voice control, as well as in industrial applications where operating conditions require high overload capacity and mechanical strength. MEMS technology reduces the size of the microphone, while the output can be either analog or digital.

Microphones based on MEMS technology provide excellent sound quality. They are less sensitive to mechanical vibrations, temperature changes and electromagnetic interference than traditional microphones. The MEMS process makes these mics the perfect stereo solution wherever two or more perfectly matched mics are required. MEMS microphones are omnidirectional, which means they are equally sensitive to sound coming from any direction in space. A wide frequency range makes it possible to use a MEMS microphone as a vibration sensor, including in the ultrasonic range.
