Panasonic curved touch panels for cars

Panasonic announced the start of mass production of new curved capacitive touch panels designed for installation in car multimedia systems.

With flexibility, the company's new solutions could enable automakers to create interior options that were previously unavailable. Also among the advantages of the new panels is a very high sensitivity, allowing you to use the displays even with gloves. The panels are capable of recognizing multiple touches at the same time, which will allow automotive system developers to integrate gesture support into their software.

Another feature of Panasonic's new development is the ability to create holes in the touch panel, which allows designing more complex multimedia systems based on it.

The transparency of the panels reaches 90%. The panels are moisture resistant and able to withstand temperatures from -40°C to 80°C. Based on the company's panels, it will be possible to create displays with a diagonal of 5 to 12 inches.

Samsung 256GB UFS Car Drives 06.02.2018

The Universal Flash Storage (UFS) serial bus is slowly making its way into smartphones, but it may find its way into automotive applications. In any case, manufacturers of flash memory with UFS bus - Samsung and Toshiba - time after time offer developers more and more advanced memory modules. UFS drives operate using only one or two memory lanes and are highly efficient in data transfer. This will be especially important for electric vehicles, in which every watt of electricity stored can either be spent on electronics maintenance or spent on driving extra kilometers.

With a recent press release, Samsung Electronics announces the start of mass production of 256 GB eUFS 2.1 modules with support for part of the UFS 3.0 specifications. JEDEC published the final specifications for UFS 3.0 just ten days ago. The new version of the standard, in addition to doubling the transmission rate over one line to 1,2 GB / s, contains two "automobile" extensions. It is these two possibilities that are embedded in the new Samsung chips. There is no talk of doubling the speed of data exchange yet.

So, the new Samsung eUFS 2.1 modules support an extended operating temperature range from -40 ° C to 105 ° C (memory with an eMMC 5.1 bus operates in the range from -25 ° C to 85 ° C) and, as for the second innovation, they support updating ( regeneration) data. Both of these options appeared in the third version of the standard, which allowed Samsung to announce the release of the industry's first eUFS memory with support for elements of the UFS 3.0 standard. For the sake of fairness, we note that Toshiba introduced eUFS modules with support for an extended temperature range with a maximum capacity of 128 GB in December.

Samsung's eUFS 2.1 modules perform better than the UFS 2.1 specifications require. Thus, the declared exchange rate over one line is 850 MB / s, while the maximum transfer rate is set at 600 MB / s by the standard. For reading random blocks, performance approaches 45 IOPS. Temperature sensors embedded in Samsung memory can transmit data to the control processor. Thus, the processor can quickly reduce the frequency of memory access in case of overheating or respond in a predetermined way to any set temperature threshold.

Samsung expects eUFS memory to proliferate in premium vehicles as part of information and entertainment systems, and then appear in automotive electronics at all levels of sophistication and class.
