Light bulb with vacuum cleaner

12.07.2015

English inventor James Dyson is known for his newly invented household appliances - vacuum cleaners, air purifiers, electric towels. He is also known for loud statements about his inventions. Now his son Jake Dyson has taken up the baton and announced the creation of an LED light bulb that can last for 37 years.

The main problem with LEDs is their cooling. Even though LEDs produce significantly less heat than incandescent bulbs, heat causes the brightness to dim over time and the color to fade. Dyson Jr. came up with the idea of using heat pipes to cool LEDs, as in large computer systems and space technology. However, they are also used to cool high-power LED lights, so Dyson's invention refers to the miniaturization of heat removal from the bulb using an aluminum radiator.

Thus, according to the author, the temperature is maintained at a level of 55°C, at which the phosphor coating of the LED is maintained for 37 years under normal use (12 hours of continuous use per day).

A "Dyson bulb", or rather, the entire lamp, in which 8 LEDs are built in, costs about $600. At the same time, the guarantee covers 2 years of work, and it is not clear what will happen in, say, 15 years. Therefore, it makes sense for exotic lovers to pay attention to Cree light bulbs. They are also LED, but the problem of heat dissipation in them is solved with the help of ring ribs on the bulb right above the lamp base.

In addition, Cree's new generation of light bulbs use holes in the base and top of the bulb to allow heat to be transferred by convection. And such a light bulb costs only $8.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Emergency power supply of the LED lamp up to 3 hours 25.12.2016

ISSATA has added one more emergency power supply unit IS 200 EK-40 for LED lamps to its product line. The main difference between the new block and the already existing IS 200 EK-17 is the battery capacity and, accordingly, the duration of the lamp.

The new emergency power supply unit (EPU) is equipped with a nickel-cadmium battery with a capacity of 4000 mAh at a voltage of 7,2 V. This battery and the available operating modes (selected by a DIP switch) allow the luminaire to work in emergency mode for at least 180 minutes.

BAP IS 200 EK-40 has four sub-ranges of operation 0-12/12-24/24-94/94-120 V. The value of the output current 350/351-250/352-63/353-50 mA depends on the selected subrange. When choosing an operating mode, you should be guided by the fact that the output voltage of the unit is higher than the voltage drop across the LED string.

IS 200 devices are designed for luminaires installed in rooms where there is a requirement for continuous emergency lighting and it is not possible to provide this lighting from backup power lines.
