With the help of zinc sulfide, flexible shiny sheets can be made.

Most luminaires are rigid: glass lamps or solid-state LEDs. Unless the latter can be enclosed in a flexible shell and get a luminous cord. A truly flexible glowing sheet can be made from OLEDs, but they are expensive and short-lived.

Physicists from the Institute of the Leibniz Society for New Materials, led by Peter William de Olivera, decided to use another phenomenon - electroluminescence, that is, the glow of a substance under the influence of an electric field. They enclosed a layer of zinc sulfide particles between two electrodes, one of which was transparent. When applied to a conventional AC voltage of 220 volts, these sheets glow green or blue-green.

All three layers and the control circuit can be easily printed, and the process requires heating to only two hundred degrees, that is, some kind of flexible polymer can serve as a substrate. This significantly reduces the cost of the process and allows you to create previously unseen free-form lamps.

De Olivera is currently working on achieving a white glow, as well as lowering the operating voltage of the luminous sheet.

According to many scientists, the future belongs to environmentally friendly hydrogen energy. However, hydrogen is difficult to store: at normal pressure it takes up too much space, compressed hydrogen cylinders are explosive and heavy. Liquid hydrogen requires voluminous thermal insulation. It is possible to store hydrogen in metal hydrides based on rare metals, but they are expensive.

Employees of the Danish University of Technology have developed a method for storing hydrogen in the form of ammonia, which is part of the complex salt formed by ammonia with magnesium chloride.

Tablets can be pressed from this salt. When heated above 300 degrees Celsius, ammonia is released from the tablet; it is passed through a catalyst and decomposed into nitrogen and hydrogen. Magnesium chloride is not wasted in any way and can be "charged" with hydrogen again. A supply of pills in a container equal in volume to an ordinary car gas tank allows a car to travel 600 kilometers.
