TCA9554 Digital Port Expander for I2C Bus

The TCA9554PWR Digital Port Expander (I/O Expander) from Texas Instruments allows you to add 8 bidirectional GPIO lines to any product that has an I2C or SMBus interface.

The TCA9554PWR is compatible with any type of 1,5V to 5,5V microcontroller and provides a simple solution for applications that require additional lines to connect pushbuttons, switches, LEDs and relays. The output current of one port can reach 25mA. When power is applied, all ports are set to their default state without any bounce. In standby mode, the TCA9554PWR draws between 200 nA and 1,6 µA depending on the supply voltage.

A feature of the TCA9554PWR is the ability to generate an interrupt when the status of a port configured for input changes. The presence of three hardware address lines (A0, A1 and A2) allows you to combine up to 8 expander chips on the same I2C bus. TCA9554PWR can work on I2C both in standard mode (100 kHz) and in "fast" mode (400 kHz).

The pinout of the TCA9554PWR is the same as the popular PCF8574.

If you need to increase the number of I / O lines up to 16 ports, you can use the TCA9555 and TCA9535 chips. The TCA16 version of the 9535-port expander has a reduced standby current in Stand-By mode (no more than 3 μA).
