Electric car chargers in parking lots

23.10.2013

Hevo is partnering with New York University to install a wireless car charging system in New York City. Devices that look like manhole covers will charge electric cars in the parking lot.

Every day in any major city, a large number of cars deliver food, mail, and other goods, making dozens of stops in the same places. If you install wireless chargers at these stops, you can partially transfer the city's transport infrastructure to electric traction without any special reforms.

The Hevo system consists of three parts: a charging station built into the curb or road, a receiver placed in the car, and a smartphone app that allows drivers to connect their car to the charger and monitor the battery charging process. The principle of operation of the charger is based on a resonant circuit, in which two magnetic coils are connected to capacitors that resonate at a certain frequency. With this scheme, energy losses are reduced, and the transmission speed and distance are increased.

In its current form, the Hevo system runs on 220 volts and can deliver up to 10 kilowatts of current. The Hevo charger is ideal for charging the batteries of electric vehicles that travel at low speeds and have a small capacity battery.

Hevo plans to deploy the first prototypes of the new wireless charging system in Washington Square Park in early 2014. Two NYU Smart ForTwo test vehicles will initially use the chargers, and talks are underway with PepsiCo, Walgreens and City Harvest to roll out the new system in their vehicles.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Monitor MSI Optix G32C4 15.01.2020

The gaming-grade Optix G32C4 model, based on Samsung's 31,5-inch VA matrix, has appeared in the MSI family of monitors.

The panel has a concave shape (1500R), and the horizontal and vertical viewing angles reach 178 degrees. The resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels - Full HD format.

AMD FreeSync technology is responsible for improving image quality in dynamic computer games. It synchronizes the screen refresh rate with the frame rate of the GPU, thereby eliminating visual artifacts such as frame tearing.

The monitor has a response time of 1ms and a refresh rate of 165Hz. The brightness is 250 cd/m2, typical and dynamic contrast ratios are 3000:1 and 100:000.

The panel claims 95% coverage of the DCI-P3 color space and 120% coverage of the sRGB space. The Anti-Flicker system combats screen flicker, while Less Blue Light technology reduces the intensity of radiation in the blue component of the visible spectrum to reduce eye fatigue during long gaming sessions.

The set of connectors includes a DisplayPort 1.2a interface and two HDMI 1.4b connectors. Dimensions are 709,4 x 509,5 x 248,9 mm, weight - 6,4 kg.
