Charging cable Phoenix Contact 375 kW

20.04.2023

Phoenix Contact has unveiled its new HPC charging cable from the Charx Connect Professional family, which is said to provide safe, high power charging with a constant output of 375kW and does not require cooling.

Fast charging cables in this performance class are usually liquid-cooled, which increases the cost of the cables themselves and the required cooling unit. Until now, however, manufacturers have relied on cooling as it allows for a lower conductor cross-section and for the end user to easily move the CCS cable in the charging station.

Although Phoenix Contact has increased the conductor cross section to 4x 50 square millimetres, the company believes that the cost advantages and the elimination of a liquid-cooled cooling jacket offset the larger conductor cross section. Uncooled charging cables must operate "permanently and safely" at 375 amps, even at temperatures up to 40 degrees Celsius. Since the cable is rated up to 1000 volts, this gives a design power of up to 375 kW, even if the voltage levels of today's electric vehicles are lower.

In Boost Mode, significantly higher charging currents are possible for a short time. In any case, the CCS standard does not provide for more than 500 amps. According to the technical data overview on the main page, up to 500 amps are possible in "boost mode" "depending on ambient conditions". However, since very few electric vehicles can use 500 amps (i.e. 200 kW charging power at 400 volts mains voltage) for only a few minutes, a 375 amp DC design is sufficient in practice - and still a short-term peak of 200 kW is possible.

In addition to the cost advantage of eliminating cooling components, the new HPC cable family features four-wire measurement technology. This allows the power loss in the charging cable to be recorded so that the energy transferred to the electric vehicle can be accurately determined, which is important for reliable and appropriate billing of charging processes.

Safety should be improved by a new type of double chamber sealing system. Thus, according to the company, the spatial separation of the two DC+ and DC- power contacts "reliably prevents possible short circuits". Another advantage is said to be due to the design: with freestanding repair kits, it is possible to replace the face of the connector, including the power pins, without changing the charging cable.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Farizon Auto Homtruck Electric Truck 10.11.2021

Farizon Auto, a subdivision of the Chinese auto giant Geely, presented an electric truck in Shanghai that can compete with similar products from the world's leading manufacturers. The start of production and sales is scheduled for 2024.

Farizon Auto's Homtruck is designed for both Chinese and international markets. This was announced by the head of the division, Mike Fan (Mike Fan). According to him, the company focuses on the markets of Europe, Korea, Japan and North America.

It is known that models of a comparable level were presented by many automakers from around the world - from Daimler and BYD to Tesla with its Semi model - data on the latter appeared back in 2017, but the release was delayed. The Homtruck will be available in both an all-electric version and a partially methanol-fueled hybrid version. Geely has been developing methyl alcohol fuel cells for several years and some of its models already use this option. At the same time, the truck's electric batteries can be quickly replaced, which will save time on recharging.

The cabin has everything you need for a trucker, including a small toilet and even a shower, a single bed, a "kitchen area" and a small washing machine.

Moreover, when creating a novelty, the possibility of its transfer to autonomous control in the future was considered in advance. Geely says that at the time of launch, the truck will use elements of an autonomous driving system, and on long trips, the interaction of cars will be organized to maintain a safe speed and distance.

The autonomous driving system will be implemented in three phases. By 2023, the company expects to use some of the features of the autopilot, in 2026 there will be more advanced systems, and by 2030 - completely autonomous. Regulators are expected to prepare changes to local and international laws by this time.
