Electric car Mercedes-Benz VISION EQXX

07.01.2022

By the end of the decade, the German automaker Mercedes-Benz intends to completely abandon the production of new models of passenger cars with internal combustion engines, so the brand is showing its potential in the field of electrification at the first opportunity right now. Another concept impresses with a power reserve of more than 1000 km and record-breaking aerodynamics.

The VISION EQXX Concept is the fruit of further efforts by Mercedes-Benz to improve the efficiency of electric vehicles. The efficiency of the power plant, for example, was brought up to 95% - only five percent of the energy stored in the traction battery is lost when torque is transmitted to the wheels. Experts from the Mercedes-Benz racing team took an active part in the creation of the prototype, and the traction battery received an impressive charge storage density of about 400 Wh / l. As a result, it provides a capacity of just under 100 kWh, with half the size and 30% reduced weight compared to existing analogues. At the same time, the battery supports the ability to charge from a network with a voltage of up to 900 volts. The peak power of the power plant reaches 150 kW.

The wheelbase of 2800 mm is not that great by the standards of other cars of the brand, which allows the manufacturer to consider this concept a compact electric car, although the pursuit of an outstanding drag coefficient of 0,17 forced engineers to equip the car with a rather long rear overhang. An electric car has less aerodynamic drag than an American football, second only to a penguin in form efficiency. The use of high-strength steel to create a power frame made it possible to reduce the curb weight of the electric vehicle to 1750 kg without compromising passive safety. In the decoration, materials obtained from the recycling of waste are actively used.

Mercedes-Benz is particularly proud of the energy consumption for moving an electric car per 100 km - for the VISION EQXX it does not exceed 10 kWh. Such energy consumption is comparable to the efficiency of a gasoline car, which consumes no more than 100 liter of fuel per 1 km. The power reserve of VISION EQXX on a single charge reaches 1000 km. The cooling system of the power plant is equipped with active shutters, which open the access of outside air to the engine compartment and throw out the heated air through slots in the hood. The heat pump, which is involved in heating the passenger compartment and the traction battery, is also designed with an emphasis on energy efficiency. Even the shape of the wheel covers was designed with aerodynamics in mind, and tires with low rolling resistance were provided by the Bridgestone brand.

On the roof of the electric vehicle, there are 17 solar panels, which in clear weather can increase the driving range by 25 km per day. In the cabin of the concept, you can find a unique display with a diagonal of 47,5 inches and a resolution of 7680 x 600 pixels, extending from the left to the right A-pillar and made using mini-LED technology.

The existence of an entropy rule for quantum entanglement has been proven 09.05.2024

Quantum mechanics continues to amaze us with its mysterious phenomena and unexpected discoveries. Recently, Bartosz Regula from the RIKEN Center for Quantum Computing and Ludovico Lamy from the University of Amsterdam presented a new discovery that concerns quantum entanglement and its relation to entropy. Quantum entanglement plays an important role in modern quantum information science and technology. However, the complexity of its structure makes understanding and managing it challenging. Regulus and Lamy's discovery shows that quantum entanglement follows an entropy rule similar to that for classical systems. This discovery opens new perspectives in the field of quantum information science and technology, deepening our understanding of quantum entanglement and its connection to thermodynamics. The results of the study indicate the possibility of reversibility of entanglement transformations, which could greatly simplify their use in various quantum technologies. Opening a new rule ... >>

New method for creating powerful batteries 08.05.2024

With the development of technology and the expanding use of electronics, the issue of creating efficient and safe energy sources is becoming increasingly urgent. Researchers at the University of Queensland have unveiled a new approach to creating high-power zinc-based batteries that could change the landscape of the energy industry. One of the main problems with traditional water-based rechargeable batteries was their low voltage, which limited their use in modern devices. But thanks to a new method developed by scientists, this drawback has been successfully overcome. As part of their research, scientists turned to a special organic compound - catechol. It turned out to be an important component that can improve battery stability and increase its efficiency. This approach has led to a significant increase in the voltage of zinc-ion batteries, making them more competitive. According to scientists, such batteries have several advantages. They have b ... >>

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

China will save 300 million tons of coal per year 19.04.2017

A report by Greenpeace Southeast Asia, Accelerating the Energy Transition: Co-benefits of Wind and Solar PV in China, states that renewable energy will save China about 2030 million coal annually by 300.

The report reflects the impact of the wind and solar photovoltaic industry on China's economy from 2015 to 2030, based on the current state of the country's renewable energy use, available technologies, government policies, and the ongoing decline in the cost of energy sources.

The report found that by 2030, wind and solar energy could save 3,6 billion m3 of water per year, corresponding to the annual basic needs of 200 million people. Given growing concerns about water resources, this is one important co-benefits that is sometimes overlooked when considering the advantages of using renewable energy over fossil fuels.

According to the report, China's renewable energy market will grow 2030 times to 5 trillion yuan ($1,57 billion) by 227,9 and account for 1,1% of national GDP. Moreover, according to the Greenpeace Southeast Asia forecast, the wind and solar industry will bring 2030 billion yuan in external environmental benefits to the country in 456 alone.
