Canon Dual Lens for VR Content Capturing

The Japanese manufacturer of photographic equipment Canon has announced an unusual lens for branded cameras of the EOS R series. This is a double fisheye lens with a focal length of 5,2 mm and aperture of f/2.8. The device is designed for shooting materials in VR mode. The manufacturer positions the lens as a premium level L optics.

It is the world's first digital interchangeable lens that can capture 180° stereoscopic images and project them onto a single camera sensor. The Oculus Quest 2 headset should be the target device for playing content captured with this lens.

The best shooting mode with this device will be video in 8K resolution. This format is supported by the EOS R5. The developers have already released firmware update 1.5.0, as well as the Premiere Pro plug-in and a separate file conversion application called EOS VR Utility.

The lens will hit the market for $1999, while the EOS R5 will be available for $3899.
