By assembling a modified Pierce oscillator and a single-gate FET buffer source follower, a crystal oscillator can be obtained that has increased stability to changes in the supply voltage. Such a crystal oscillator is inexpensive to manufacture, simply matched to a TTL IC, and powered directly from a 5V TTL IC power supply.

High stability of the output frequency with changes in the supply voltage is achieved by using resistors with large resistances in the source circuits of both stages and by using large constant capacitors in the gate and drain circuits of the generator stage. Even when the supply voltage changes from 3 to 9 V, the output frequency deviates by no more than 1 Hz from the nominal value of 1 MHz.

The circuit itself is so stable that the characteristics of the generator as a whole are determined only by the quality of the quartz resonator. High-quality thermostatted quartz resonator provides instability after warm-up 10-8 per day. When the ambient temperature is sufficiently constant, the circuit as a whole provides similar stability.

Good matching with TTL ICs is achieved with a Schmitt trigger, such as the 7413 type. The 2,2 kΩ input resistor biases the Schmitt trigger within hysteresis without excessively loading the oscillator source follower. The Schmitt trigger type 7413 generates a signal level sufficient to trigger a TTL IC, even when the generator supply voltage is reduced to 3 V.

The output of the Schmitt trigger is rich in high frequency harmonics and can therefore be mixed with the standard 10 MHz frequency signal broadcast by the National Bureau of Standards, allowing the oscillator to be tuned to within 0,1 Hz of the nominal frequency. Using this method of measurement, it is possible to determine daily short-term and long-term stability with sufficient accuracy. In this case, the oscillator can be used as a secondary frequency standard tested against the National Bureau of Standards standard.

Capacitor Cd sets the calibration range, which is carried out using a trimmer capacitor. Capacitance Cd may vary depending on the type of quartz resonator.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Panasonic controllers with 40nm integrated ReRAM 02.02.2020

The Japanese company Panasonic announced the start of production of microcontrollers with built-in ReRAM memory with technological standards of 40 nm. An important feature of the controller will be a block of built-in ReRAM memory with a capacity of 256 KB.

ReRAM memory is based on the principle of controlled resistance in the oxide layer, which makes it very resistant to radiation. Thus, this microcontroller will be in demand for managing the protection of medical equipment in the production of instruments and preparations using radiation exposure during disinfection (sterilization).

Let's dwell a little more on ReRAM. Panasonic has been developing this type of memory for about 20 years, and maybe even longer. The company launched the production of microcontrollers with ReRAM in 2013 using a 180-nm process technology. At that time, Panasonic's ReRAM could not compete with NAND. Subsequently, for the development and production of ReRAM with 40 nm standards, Panasonic teamed up with the Taiwanese company UMC.

Embedded 40nm ReRAM can already compete with embedded 40nm NAND in a number of ways: speed, reliability, more erase cycles, and radiation resistance.

The microcontroller has increased protection against hacking and data theft. The solution will be applied in industrial devices and in a wide range of infrastructure. Each chip has a unique analog identifier built into it - something like a human fingerprint. Using this "fingerprint", a unique key will be generated to authenticate the chip on the network and to transfer (remove) data from it. The key will never come out and will be destroyed immediately after authentication, which will protect the key from being intercepted in the controller's memory.

There is also an NFC transceiver. Data from the controller can be read even in the event of a power failure of the device, for example, if the attackers turned off the electricity at the protected facility. In addition, with the help of NFC and a mobile device, the controller (platform) can be connected to the Internet even without deploying a network specifically for this.
