When establishing amateur radio structures operating at frequencies above 1 GHz (for example, in the 23 cm amateur band), a highly stable signal generator is required. It is not difficult to make it if a radio amateur has a quartz resonator at a frequency of 27 ... 50 MHz.

Schematic diagram of the generator is shown in fig. 1. The master oscillator is assembled on a transistor VT1, the frequency multiplier is on a diode VD1. The necessary harmonic of the original signal (for example, the 29th for the amateur band of 23 cm when using a resonator at a frequency of 45 MHz) is allocated by the L3C6 circuit. The bias voltage on the diode VD1 is created automatically. Its optimal value (according to the maximum signal of the required harmonic) is set by the trimming resistor R4. According to the same criterion, the level of high-frequency voltage supplied to the multiplier from the master oscillator is selected (with a tuning resistor R3). If necessary, the output signal of the generator can be modulated. The required modulating voltage level is set by a variable resistor R5.

UHF signal generator
Ris.1

The generator uses a conventional high-frequency diode (not designed to operate in the UHF range). If you replace it with a Schottky diode, the output signal level will increase noticeably.

The oscillatory circuit L1C2 is tuned to the frequency of the quartz resonator. The design of the coils L1 and L2 is not critical (the ratio of their number of turns is about 10). Choke L5 is a frameless coil (10 turns) with a diameter of 13 mm.

Elements VD1, C4, C5, L3-L5 are mounted on a board made of one-sided foil material, placing all the parts on the side of the foil. The L3C6 circuit is a half-wave line adjusted by a capacitor. Its dimensions for the amateur range of 23 cm are shown in fig. 2. Make a line from a copper strip, bend and solder both ends of it to the foil. The connection loop L4 is bent from a wire with a diameter of 1 mm and placed a few millimeters from the line L3.

Ris.2

By increasing the longitudinal dimensions of the line (in proportion to the decrease in the operating frequency), the described generator can be used to tune, for example, UHF television converters.
The generator is fed from a stabilized source with a voltage of 9 ... 12 V.

Transistor VT1 can be replaced with KP303E, diode VD1 - with KD522 or KD514A.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

The longest living creatures on Earth have been found 23.07.2017

American scientists have discovered the longest-lived creatures on Earth, the secret of which they hope to use to extend human life. These are deep sea sessile worms from the bottom of the Caribbean Sea, some of which are over 300 years old.

Individuals of Escarpia laminata cross a border in longevity that no other species of living creatures has ever crossed. And since it is impossible to accurately determine the age for the longest individuals of this species, it is possible that some of them live even longer.

Worms are more suitable for experimentation and study than rare tortoises and giant cetaceans, which were previously considered long-lived record holders. Individuals living in one place all their lives near hydrothermal vents and "black smokers" at the bottom of the sea feed on plankton and the remains of other organisms that are caught from the water. Escarpia laminata tubes grow very slowly - about half a millimeter per year, and the age of the longest individuals exceeds 300 years.

Part of the secret to their longevity is that these worms almost never die - the mortality rate in their colonies does not exceed 0,6% even for the oldest individuals, which is about 15 times lower than the values \uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbpredicted by theory. Perhaps this is due to the low temperature of the waters in which Escarpia laminata and other deep-sea worms live.
