Radio waves cannot be detected by any of our senses. But if a conductor is encountered on the path of radio waves, they give it a part of all energy. The reception of radio broadcasts is based on this phenomenon. "Catching" the energy of radio waves during the operation of your first receiver was carried out by an antenna. Giving the antenna part of the electromagnetic energy, the radio waves induced modulated high-frequency oscillations in it.

In the receiver, processes are reversed to those that occur in the studio and on the transmitter of the radio station. If there the sound is sequentially converted first into electrical oscillations of sound frequency, and then into modulated oscillations of high frequency, then the inverse problem is solved during radio reception: the high-frequency modulated oscillations excited in the antenna are converted by the receiver into electrical oscillations of sound frequency, and then into sound. In your first receiver, modulated high-frequency oscillations were converted into audio-frequency oscillations by a detector, and low-frequency oscillations into sound by headphones.

But after all, the radio waves of many radio stations penetrate the antenna of the receiver, exciting in it modulated oscillations of various frequencies. And if all these radio signals were turned into sounds, then we would hear hundreds of voices of people speaking different languages. It is unlikely that such radio reception would suit you. We, of course, are interested in listening to the transmissions of different stations, but not all at the same time, but each one separately. And for this, from the oscillations of all frequencies excited in the antenna, it is necessary to single out oscillations with the frequency of only the radio station whose transmissions we want to listen to.

This task is performed by an oscillatory circuit - an indispensable part of any radio receiver. It was thanks to the oscillatory circuit that you tuned your receiver to radio signals of different wavelengths.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

Transcend introduces copy-protected memory cards 13.01.2013

Transcend Information announced the release of copy-protected SD and microSD memory cards. The features of these media include the presence of copy-protected and freely copied zones, CD-ROM emulation, configurable media protection, excellent compatibility and high performance. Transcend says this makes Copy Protection SD and microSD cards ideal for use in OEM applications and media distribution.

The media can be useful for publishers of sound and video recordings, as well as educational institutions that want to distribute educational material to students. They protect intellectual property by allowing access to data but preventing unauthorized copies from being made.

The space left after writing files that should be copy-protected can be used by the end user at their discretion, just like on a regular SD card. When protected data is deleted, the space previously occupied by it also becomes available. Another possible use case is to completely disable writing to the card.

To protect data, the cards are available with a dedicated Transcend RDF5 USB 3.0 writer/reader that acts as the only key that can unlock the card.

For additional protection, Transcend Copy Protection SD and microSD cards can be ID-bound to a specific device, after which they cannot be used normally with other devices.
