I offer radio amateurs several ways to etch printed circuit boards.

1. In one liter of hot (about 80 ... 90 ° C) water dissolve eight tablespoons of table salt and four tablespoons of powdered copper sulphate.

2. When adding 2 ... 3 cups of ammonium nitrate per 1,5 ... 2 liters of electrolyte, it turns into a 15 ... 20% solution of nitric acid. For cooking, you can take an electrolyte that has already served its purpose, even blackened from an excess of lead dissolved in it. Before preparing the solution, it must be filtered through gauze folded several times. Then, if it is dark in color (from a used battery), let it settle for 7 ... 10 days. After that, pour into another bowl without shaking the sediment, and then add saltpeter to it, stirring it with a glass or wooden stick until completely dissolved in the electrolyte.

The solution can be used until it is completely saturated with copper, which can be determined by its color (the solution is changed after it acquires a bright blue color). As the solution is developed, nitrate can be added to it to speed up the etching process.

3. Galvanic etching.

a) A printed circuit board blank is connected to the pole of the current source, with a voltage of 25 ... 30 V. The minus of the current source is connected to a wire, on the end of which cotton wool soaked in a saturated aqueous solution of common salt (H20 NaCI) is wound.

b) A wire is soldered to the printed circuit board foil. The place of soldering is covered with nitro-lacquer. This wire is connected to the positive terminal "+" of the current source with a voltage of 4 ... 12 V. The negative terminal "-" of the source is connected to a metal vessel. Pour a saturated salt solution into a vessel. When adjusting the current and voltage, it is necessary to ensure that the temperature does not exceed 35 ... 40 ° C.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Diamond magnetic field sensor 19.07.2022

A team of researchers led by the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics has developed a laser-based diamond sensor. The technology uses quantum defects in diamond (NV centers) to detect the magnetic field.

The NV center or nitrogen-substituted vacancy is one of the many point defects in diamond. It is formed when the structure of the crystal lattice of the mineral is disturbed. When a carbon atom is removed from a lattice site, the resulting vacancy in this place is associated with a nitrogen atom. The researchers explain that the amount of light coming from the NV center varies depending on the strength of the magnetic field. This effect is already used by scientists, but in existing installations, most of this radiation is lost.

"Our breakthrough was the creation of a laser for defects. By collecting all the light, and not just a small amount of it, we can detect the magnetic field 10 times more accurately with our sensor compared to today's best practice," says Andrew Greentry, professor at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology Institute and one of the authors of the study.

The pump laser (532 nm) and the seed laser (710 nm) are combined with a dichroic mirror (DM) and are focused separately into the resonator. The green laser is blocked by 532nm notch filters (NF). The sensors capture past light (det1), reflected light (det2) and photoluminescence (det3).

The new technology will help improve methods for measuring the magnetic field to map brain activity and identify disorders. Modern magnetoencephalography devices are very sensitive, but also bulky, expensive to install, and require operation at ultra-low temperatures with liquid helium.

Using a diamond laser sensor, it is possible to create compact devices that will operate at room temperature.

Available technology will help in the early detection of Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy and other brain disorders. In addition, the device can be useful in the mining industry. For example, high-precision detection of magnetic fields will help to explore mineral deposits.
