We offer a description of another loudspeaker design from the book prepared for publication by S. D. Batya. This loudspeaker is made without a bass reflex, in a closed housing, so it is recommended to use it as a satellite in speakers with an additional low-frequency loudspeaker.

The closed housing prevents an acoustic short circuit of the dynamic head, when, during low-frequency oscillations, compression and rarefaction of air from the front side of the diffuser are compensated by rarefaction and compression created by its rear side. This process takes place at wavelengths exceeding the diameter of the diffuser, i.e. at relatively low frequencies (below 1 kHz).

The BT-2 loudspeaker is designed as a high quality "satellite" to work together with an additional bass link. As part of the task, it was decided to place the heads on the front panel of the case in the MTM configuration (MTM - midle, tweeter, midle), when the tweeter is installed between two midrange heads. This arrangement of dynamic heads contributes to the expansion of the radiation pattern in the horizontal plane and narrowing - in the vertical.

The BT-2 loudspeaker uses two PEERLESS 830436 dynamic heads, reproducing low-midrange signals, and a PEERLESS 810665 HF head (you can find information about these heads on the website arkada.com). The enclosure of the closed-type loudspeaker with a useful volume of 12 liters is made of 16 mm thick MDF material.

The housing drawing is shown in fig. 1. Hydrostekloizol was chosen as an anti-vibration coating, and the internal volume is filled with a low-density synthetic winterizer.

A rectangular terminal is fixed in the rear wall, for which the hole has dimensions of 94x74 mm. The design of the terminal is not of fundamental importance: you can simply attach two terminals suitable for connecting a cable to the rear panel.

The frequency response of the VT-2 loudspeaker is shown in Fig. 2, the graph of the dependence of the impedance modulus on frequency is shown in Fig. 3, diagram - in Fig. 4.

Unlike a number of other PEERLESS HF heads, there is no magnetic fluid in the gap of the magnetic system of the 810665 head. High-frequency heads without magnetic fluid, as a rule, have an increased resolution when reproducing the sound of musical instruments, but require additional measures to be taken to protect against overload by mid-frequency signals.

In the crossover filter of the VT-2 loudspeaker, the high-frequency head is connected through a third-order high-pass filter C1C2L1. the filter retains its design characteristics in the operating frequency band by compensating the reactivity in the RF head impedance with the R2C5 and L2R1C3C4 chains. The midrange and bass heads are connected through a first order filter.

The VT-2 loudspeaker was demonstrated at the Russian High End 2000 exhibition. Experts and visitors characterized the sound of the VT-2 loudspeaker as dynamic and detailed with good localization of sound sources.

The author knows several amateurs who have successfully made this design: the VT-2 loudspeaker is distinguished by good repeatability of the design characteristics.

In the manufacture of loudspeakers, it is necessary to ensure the strength of the connection and the rigidity of the walls. The vibrations of the case must be strongly attenuated so as not to introduce a noticeable coloration into the sound of the loudspeaker.

The walls are connected using PVA glue and screws. Pre-drilled panels at the joints are smeared with glue and tightened with screws. Screws with a diameter of 3,5 - 4 and a length of 40 - 150 mm can be screwed well into the ends of plywood and MDF panels. It is advisable to sink the screw heads into cylindrical recesses, which are puttied and do not interfere with the decorative finish of the case. The partitions connecting the walls together are also secured with screws and glue.

Between the rear wall and the slats, a seal made of tape polyethylene foam is introduced, glued to the slats. The adhesive layer of these strips is protected by a strip of paper. The back walls are secured with screws, which are wrapped in slats. The number of screws for the rear wall is determined by the selected distance between the screws in the range of 80...100 mm.

The loudspeaker crossover filters use Solen capacitors for a nominal voltage of 250 V and ceramic resistors for a power of 5 W. You can also use capacitors K73-16 at 63 V and MBGO at 250 V.

The inductors of the separating filters are wound on organic glass frames with a wire with a diameter of 1 mm, and the L2 coil of the compensating circuit is 0,2 mm with an active resistance of not more than 3,5 Ohm. The active resistances of the coils L1, L3 should not exceed 0,2 ohms.

When making separating filter coils on your own, you can use the information from the table, where the following designations are used: D1 - inner diameter of the frame, D2 - cheek diameter, H - winding width (distance between cheeks), N - number of turns.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Black Silicon for Efficient Solar Panels 20.10.2012

Solar panels convert only three-quarters of the sun's energy into electricity. Thus, to the initially low efficiency, the loss of the entire infrared part of the spectrum is added, which is an unacceptable waste. Scientists at the Fraunhofer Institute have developed a new material for solar cells that also captures infrared light.

A material called black silicon is very promising, and recently German scientists managed to double the efficiency of solar cells based on it.

Due to the fact that solar panels simply cannot turn a quarter of the energy of the sun's rays into electricity, not only energy is lost, but also the heating of solar panels occurs, which reduces their service life and further reduces efficiency. One way to overcome this problem is to use black silicon, a material that absorbs almost all sunlight, including infrared radiation, and converts it into electricity.

Black silicon is obtained by irradiating standard silicon with femtosecond laser pulses in a gaseous medium containing sulfur. During this process, sulfur atoms are attached to the atomic lattice of silicon. In conventional silicon, infrared light lacks the energy to excite electrons and convert them into electricity. It is like a high wall that cannot be overcome in one jump. But due to the inclusion of sulfur atoms, black silicon forms a kind of intermediate levels that facilitate the "jumping" of electrons. By changing the parameters of the laser pulse, the scientists were able to change the height of the intermediate levels and increase the return of electrons to the maximum level.

Initially, the developers plan to simply add black silicon cells to conventional solar panels. Tandem cells made of ordinary and black silicon will be only a couple of percent more efficient than conventional ones, but in this way it is possible to upgrade a large number of existing solar panels, which will give a good increase in energy.

In the future, black silicon can be used as the main material for the manufacture of solar panels, although this will require the development of special automatic laser systems.
