The ability of the op-amp to suppress common-mode (coming simultaneously to both inputs) voltage allows you to select a weak useful signal against the background of strong interference.

The figure shows a diagram of a device (its principle of operation is based on the specified property of the op-amp), which allows transmitting signals in both directions over a single coaxial cable (elements on the right side of the diagram are assigned reference designations starting with number 11).

Two-way communication line

Input signals A and B through buffer amplifiers (DA1, DA11) with a gain of 1 and resistors R5, R15 enter the line. The inputs of the op-amp UA2 and DA 12 are also connected to it, amplifying the difference signal, and the common mode signal is suppressing. By changing the resistances of the tuning resistors R8 and R18, it is possible to achieve suppression of an unwanted signal by 50 ... 55 dB.

The device can be used to transmit not only analog but also digital signals.

Wounds heal more slowly with age. 01.12.2016

Scientists from the Rockefeller University (USA), led by Professor Elaine Fuchs, figured out why wounds begin to heal more slowly with age.

The researchers performed experiments on the skin of mice between the ages of two months and two years. For a human, this is equivalent to a spread of 20 to 70 years.

The healing of wounds on the surface of the body is a complex process in which different types of cells are involved. To put it very simply, at a key stage, keratinocytes (skin cells) migrate to the edges of the wound, so that it gradually heals. This process must be constantly coordinated with the cells of the immune system, which ensures that no infection or any foreign substance enters the body through the wound.

This coordination occurs at the biochemical level and, as it turned out, begins to work worse over time. "Our experiments have shown that as we age, interference in communication between skin cells and immune cells slows down wound healing," Professor Fuchs explained.

This discovery in the future may allow the development of medical agents that accelerate skin regeneration in the elderly. "It may be possible to activate pathways that help skin cells communicate better with neighboring immune cells and increase signals that normally decline with age," said the study leader.

The process of regeneration of living tissues is in the center of attention of scientists, and many interesting discoveries have been made in this area recently. For example, it has been established that the early development of the brain and regeneration are regulated by the same mechanism, and the ability of the heart to regenerate is associated with the length of telomeres (the ends of chromosomes that shorten with age).
