The article “Tester for Batteries,” published in Radio No. 6, 1991, under the heading “Abroad,” describes a relatively complex, in my opinion, device intended for quickly determining the suitability of batteries.
I propose a simpler device for a similar purpose that does not require an additional power source (see diagram). The test device is connected to the galvanic cell under test using probes X1 and X2 in any polarity.
Switch SA1 sets the maximum current consumed by the galvanic cell under test. LEDs HL1 and HL2 are selected so that at an element voltage of 1,4 V they glow weakly, and at a voltage of 1,5... 1,7 V they glow brightly. In practice, the device detects only elements suitable for operation, and “discards” unsuitable ones by the absence of light on the HL1 and HL2 indicators.
The resistances of resistors R1 - R4 are selected taking into account the maximum current of galvanic cells 316, 332, 343, 373, i.e. 0,06 A, 0,1 A, 0,12 A and 0,4 A, respectively.
