A powerful power supply can be assembled based on modern integrated circuits. On the LM78H12K integrated circuit, a 12 V source with a maximum current of 5 A is obtained. The microcircuit is protected against short circuits, overtemperature and withstands a short-term current up to 7 A. This source can be used, for example, to power an ultrasonic frequency converter or other devices.

The source diagram is shown in Fig.1.

Power supply on the chip LM78H12K, 12 volts 5 amps

The alternating voltage from the secondary winding of the transformer T1 is supplied to a powerful diode bridge VD1, designed for a rectified current of at least 5 A. After the diode bridge, the rectified voltage is supplied to the capacitors C1 and C2, which perform low-frequency and high-frequency voltage filtering, and then to the input of the stabilizer microcircuit DA1.

The microcircuit is made in a metal case TO-204 (TO-3) with two leads (input and output). The microcircuit housing serves as a control output and is connected to the circuit through screws and adapter pads on the printed circuit board. On this microcircuit, you can assemble a linear voltage regulator operating in low dropout mode, with an output voltage of 2,3 V at a current of up to 5 A. From the output of the DA1 microcircuit, the stabilized voltage is supplied to capacitors C3, C4 and then to the power supply output. The indicator on the HL1 LED performs service functions, i.e. shows the voltage supply to the stabilizer circuit board.

The printed circuit board of the source (Fig. 2) is made of one-sided foil fiberglass with a thickness of 1,5 ... 2 mm and dimensions of 60x60 mm.

The location of the radio components on the board is shown in Fig.3.

After the board is made, the current-carrying tracks, especially the power ones, must be well tinned with solder. On the printed circuit board, there is free space for installing a radiator when the microcircuit is operated in extreme modes.

The types of parts used are shown in the table. The transformer for the source is selected in accordance with the current load and, recommended, with a voltage of the secondary winding of 17 ... 20 V. A fuse with a rated current of 0,5 ... 1 A must be installed in the primary circuit of the transformer. thick stranded wire with good insulation, and a computer network wire with an euro plug is best suited as a network wire.

At high loads, the diode matrix and the stabilizer microcircuit are installed on radiators of the appropriate sizes. For these purposes, the DA1 chip is specially located separately from the rest of the radio components, this allows you to install a radiator with the required dissipation area. After mounting and testing the source, it is desirable to varnish the printed circuit board.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

New Linear DC Regulators 28.03.2010

ON Semiconductor introduces the NCP1237, NCP1238, and NCP1288 fixed-frequency, current-controlled controllers for high-efficiency, compact AC/DC converters. Designed for use in laptops, LCDs, printers and other consumer electronics, the instruments offer a choice of operating frequencies and the ability to set one or two overcurrent thresholds.

The standard transducer has a built-in 65 kHz oscillator (100 and 133 kHz versions available on request). The patented Soft-Skip mode used in these microcircuits allows you to smoothly reduce the maximum current, reducing the risk of low-frequency noise. This allows you to save on additional components, simplifying the design of the device and transformer.

Combining this with current limiting, the new controllers provide a high level of efficiency at low load resistance by reducing the input power at idle.

The pinout of the LM78H12K chip is incorrect, the input-output is reversed. If you connect it the way it is drawn, then it will burn.

Sergei
If you immediately notice, it will not burn out, but will go from a trance of 20 volts. And I agree, the drawing is wrong.
