Imagine the situation - a young man in headphones, dancing, talking with his grandfather. Grandfather does not like such disrespect, and he shouts: "Turn off the hurdy-gurdy!" Why not? After all, the barrel organ is an ancient musical instrument that feeds on the muscular strength of the organ grinder, twisting the handle.

How much money do we spend on buying batteries, how much time do we spend on charging batteries? What if the power grid is unavailable? New Year's holidays in January 2011 showed that the "end of the world" may come in Moscow. It was this incident of a man-made nature that made me think about a completely autonomous power source for a portable MP3 player, so the idea is simple. Any collector DC motor with a magnetic stator is essentially a generator, since if you rotate its shaft. voltage appears on the terminals. Now this voltage needs to be made weakly dependent on the rotational speed, as well. from sudden changes in speed and short stops.

Figure 1 shows a diagram of such a dynamo based on a motor from an old portable cassette recorder.

Mechanical power supply for MP3 player

When the rotor of the electric motor M1 rotates, a constant voltage is generated. The diode bridge VD1-VD4 allows you to rotate the rotor in any direction; the ionistor C1 with a capacity of 1 F accumulates a charge and serves to maintain the power of the MP3 player during short breaks of the "organ grinder" or when the rotation is uneven. With a capacitance of 1 F and the usual current consumption of a pocket MP3 player with the backlight of the display turned off, the capacitance C1 is enough to operate the player for 1-2 minutes after the motor-generator stops.

The integral stabilizer A1 maintains the output voltage at 1,25 V, while the voltage at C1 can reach 4 ... 5 V with intensive rotation of the rotor. that in the process of discharging the ionistor, the voltage on it drops smoothly, and a stable voltage is needed to power the MP-3 player. In addition, charging C1 with a voltage margin allows you to increase the operating time without rotating the rotor of the motor-generator.

The basis of this "hurdy-gurdy" is a tape drive mechanism from an old and long-term faulty cassette tape recorder. There is a flywheel with a capstan, and a DC electric motor with a permanent magnet - a rotor. We do not need a rotation speed stabilizer, so we remove it, leaving only a purely electric motor.

As a mechanical part, without hesitation, it was decided to use the details of the old one. LPM, from which, in fact, the electric motor. The belt was replaced with a fresh one, and a handle from a also faulty manual coffee grinder was attached to the tone-shaft of the flywheel with the help of a locking end screw. By rotating the handle, we rotate the flywheel, and from it the rotation is transmitted through the belt to the motor shaft. Only the rotation must be started smoothly so that there is no slipping, since at the initial stage the ionistor is charged, which leads to an increase in the load current of the motor-generator, and, as a result, the difficulty of rotating its rotor.

Ionistor for an operating voltage of 5 V.

The stabilizer circuit can be done differently, but it is necessary that the stabilizer itself consume less current, as this reduces the operating time without twisting. Therefore, it is highly undesirable to use a conventional parametric stabilizer like an LED and a resistor.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

AA/AAA batteries from hybrid car batteries 07.03.2016

Last February, Energizer announced the launch of the world's first batteries that partially use materials from old, recycled power sources. Following EcoAdvanced, the manufacturer also announced the world's first AA and AAA batteries, in which 4% is made up of materials from used batteries. Named Energizer Recharge, the new products have a high capacity and can be recharged hundreds of times, and the use of recycled materials makes them environmentally friendly.

The company's researchers, in collaboration with partners (names not disclosed), have found a way to recycle end-of-life high-performance car batteries. Using a patented process, the active component is recovered, allowing it to be reused in Energizer Recharge batteries.

Of the characteristics of new products, a capacity of 2300 mAh, the number of recharge cycles up to 1500, charge retention up to 12 months are noted when the batteries are not used. Note that the Recharge family also includes models of sizes C, D and crowns for 9 V.
