Proper operation of a car battery is the key to a long service life and normal operation of the entire power supply system. Monitoring the battery charging / discharging mode allows you to take the necessary preventive measures in time, as well as monitor the health of the generator, starter, electrical wiring. Not all cars are equipped with a battery current indicator, and the device described below allows you to fill this gap with simple means.

The indicator (Fig. 7.9) measures the voltage drop on the conductor connecting the negative terminal of the battery to the car body. This conductor is included in the resistive measuring bridge R1 ... R5, which allows you to remove bipolar signals from the bridge and amplify their op-amp with a unipolar supply. Logarithmic diodes VD1...VD1 are included in the negative feedback circuit of the op-amp DA4, which expand the limits of the measured current, allowing you to measure even the current consumed by the starter when starting the engine. The recording device can be any magnetoelectric milliammeter or microammeter having a scale with zero in the middle, for example, M733, with a full deflection current of the needle of 50 μA. It is most convenient to place three marks evenly on the scale to the right and left of zero: 5 A, 50 A and 500 A.

Battery current indicator

The indicator is powered by a parametric stabilizer for a voltage of 6,6 V. The right terminal of the resistor R5 according to the scheme is left permanently connected directly to the negative terminal of the battery.

To calibrate the indicator scale, it is first supplied with power directly from the battery and the microammeter needle is set to zero with a trimmer resistor R4. Then, with the ignition key turned off (in order to prevent the flow of uncontrolled battery current), the positive terminal of the battery through a powerful (about 60 W) resistor with a resistance of 2,4 ohms is connected to the car body and the trimmer resistor R7 set the arrow to 5 A.

After calibration, the positive power output of the indicator is connected to the positive wire of the vehicle's on-board electrical network. There is no need to check the calibration at a current of 50 A and especially 500 A.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Chinese astronauts fly to the moon 01.01.2012

Forty years after American astronauts landed on the Moon, Earth's satellite is once again a destination on the agenda of astronauts, this time Chinese. There have been reports of China's intentions to send a lunar expedition before, but this time, for the first time, these plans are mentioned in official documents of the government of the country.

The China Daily published a government report summarizing the results of the completed five years and indicating plans for space exploration for the next five years. The document noted that the past period was fruitful for China's cosmonautics, as everything that was planned in the space program was carried out - and spacewalks, and rendezvous, and docking in outer space.

China plans to send two Shenzhou 9 and Shenzhou 9 spacecraft (manned or unmanned) into space next year to dock with the Tiangong 10 space laboratory. The document states that the purpose of the research is to prepare for a manned flight to the moon.

This program does not yet have an approved schedule. It is only reported that the soft landing of the unmanned module and the deployment of the lunar rover to survey the surface of the Earth satellite will be initially worked out. The next stage of the "lunar program" involves the delivery of soil samples from the Moon to Earth.

In 2003, China became the third country in the world to send its citizen into space on a vehicle of its own manufacture, and five years later, a Chinese astronaut took a walk in outer space. By 2020, China plans to convert the Tiangong-1 orbital laboratory into a fully functional space station.
