There are many circuits of power regulators based on thyristors or triacs described in the literature. Basically, the phase principle of voltage regulation at the load is used. Regulators of this type create interference that propagates far through the electrical network, so they should only be used with bulky LC filters. In cases where it is not important that the power is given to the load every half-cycle, but it is necessary to regulate the average power value over a certain period of time, for example, for electric heaters, the noise level can be significantly reduced by switching the load when the mains voltage passes zero.

The scheme of Fig. 1 is based on the publication in "Elektrik" 8/2000, p.23.

The scheme has been finalized and tested. It was possible to obtain high electrical parameters only by using the BT-137600 triac from Philips Semiconductor. This device turned out to be for this class of triacs a small current of the control electrode and a small voltage drop in the open state. When using domestic triacs, it is necessary to select them according to the minimum current of the control electrode, excluding resistors R12, R13.

As C3, a capacitor of the K73-17 type with an operating voltage of 400 V is used. Resistor R3 of the SP3-4am type. Resistors R5, R6, R14 have a power of 0,5 W, the remaining resistors have a power of 0,125 W.

The regulator is mounted on a printed circuit board made of one-sided foil fiberglass 1,5 mm thick, 80x80 mm in size. The drawing of the printed circuit board and the placement of elements on it are shown in Fig. 2. The triac is mounted on a ribbed aluminum alloy radiator with dimensions of 70x40x25 mm.

The assembled circuit is installed in a case from a temperature controller of the RT-3 type. Establishing the circuit consists in selecting the resistor R12 for reliable inclusion in the range of mains voltage changes.

The scheme has passed more than a year of testing together with the electric stove "Malva" with a power of 1 kW, there were no comments on its operation.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

China will warm up Japan 17.08.2001

One and only, however, a large hydroelectric power station being built in the PRC can change the climate of Japan.

The Three Gorges Power Plant, which is being built on the Yangtze, will have a dam 186 meters high and more than two kilometers long. Behind the dam, a reservoir with a volume of about 40 billion cubic meters is formed. In addition to generating electricity, water from the reservoir will be used to irrigate surrounding fields.

Now the Yangtze River carries up to 38 cubic meters of fresh water into the Yellow Sea every second. Being lighter than salty sea water, it is located on top, and a layer of desalinated water prevents warmer sea water from giving up its heat to the atmosphere.

Geophysicists' calculations show that if the inflow of fresh water into the sea decreases by only 10 percent, warm waters will rise to the surface and warm the air around the Japanese islands by several degrees. However, whether the calculations are correct can only be verified after construction is completed.

The power plant is expected to be completed by the end of this decade.
