It often becomes necessary to start a stepper motor of a 5,25 "drive or an old MFM hard drive. Such an motor has 2, 3 or 4 windings (4, 6 or 8 pins, respectively). The supply voltage is 5 or 12 V. Let's consider the operation of such a motor using the example of a two-winding .

To control the engine, it is necessary to assemble four keys (Fig. 1, where R1, R3 - 4,7 kOhm; R2 - 2 kOhm; VT1 - KT315; VT2 - KT815; VT3 - KT814; VD1, VD2 - KD102).

Stepper motor control

Let's send signals to the inputs of the keys according to Fig.2.

Stepper motor control

The first cycle: A is high, a "direct" current flows through the I winding, the II winding is de-energized, the rotor is set to its initial position.

Second cycle: B is high, "direct" current flows through winding II, winding I is de-energized, the rotor moves one step.

Third cycle: at C high level, "reverse" current flows through winding I, winding II is de-energized, the rotor moves one step.

Fourth cycle: at D high level, a "reverse" current flows through the winding II, the winding I is de-energized, the rotor moves one step. The first cycle: A is high, a "direct" current flows through the I winding, the II winding is de-energized, the rotor moves one step.

Such a sequence of pulses can be obtained in hardware using a reversible binary counter and a decoder (for example, K155IE7 and K155ID4) - Fig. 3 or programmatically, for example, in assembler as a function for the C language.

Stepper motor control

Functions must be declared:

void r_step(void);
void l_step(void);
call like this:
r_step(void);
wait();
//delay needed
// so that the engine
// managed to step
r_step(void);
wait();
l_step(void);
wait();
;----------------
.model compact,C
public r_step, l_step
.data
mmm db 00010001b
.code
r_step: roll mmm,1
jmp@1
l_step: ror mmm,1
@1: mov al,mmm
and al,1111b
mov dx, 0378h
;parallel address
port
out dx,al
ret
end
;----------------

Connect the key inputs to the parallel port

Input ABCD

Pin 2 3 4 5

The resolution of the rotor installation can be reduced by half by changing the control algorithm to the following.

The first cycle: A is high, a "direct" current flows through the I winding, the II winding is de-energized, the rotor is set to its initial position.

Second cycle: high level on A, B, "direct" current flows through the windings I and II, the rotor moves half a step.

Third cycle: B is high, a "direct" current flows through the winding II, the winding I is de-energized, the rotor moves half a step.

Cycle four: on B, C high level, "reverse" current flows through winding I, "direct" current flows through winding II, the rotor moves half a step.

Cycle five: C high, reverse current flows through winding I, winding II is de-energized, the rotor moves half a step.

Cycle six: on C, D high level, "reverse" current flows through the windings I and II, the rotor moves half a step.

Cycle XNUMX: D high level, "reverse" current flows through winding II, winding I is de-energized, the rotor moves half a step.

The eighth cycle: on D, A a high level, a "reverse" current flows through the winding II, a "direct" current flows through the winding I, the rotor moves half a step (Fig. 4).

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

openwork bike 11.07.2005

Engineers from Briham Young University (USA) created a bicycle in the style of either the Eiffel or the Shukhov Tower. Its openwork frame is made of heavy-duty carbon fibers intertwined with fibers of a polyamide polymer - Kevlar, used in bulletproof vests.

The weight of the frame is one and a half kilograms, and the developers hope to reduce it even more. In addition to strength and lightness, the openwork bike has excellent aerodynamics: the headwind simply whistles through.
