A convenient, and sometimes simply necessary, element of a modern power tool, such as an electric drill, electric saw, grinder, electric jigsaw, electric meat grinder and many others, is the speed controller of the electric motor. In the cheapest models, there are no such regulators at all, and in the expensive ones, the simplest miniature ones built into the handle are installed. The dimensions of such a device do not allow providing the necessary power reserve, and during intensive work or jamming of the tool, they often fail.

In addition, a powerful power tool has large starting currents, which is harmful not only to the tool itself, but also to other electrical appliances connected to the network due to the resulting interference. To reduce the starting current, you need an electronic regulator with a mode for smoothly increasing the supply voltage when turned on.

What is the best way to replace a failed regulator? There are many different circuits of electronic regulators in the literature, but among them there are quite rare circuits that provide a mode of smooth increase in the output voltage. And those of them in which such a mode is available are not convenient for powering a power tool. This is due to the fact that, as a rule, in them the smoothness of the voltage rise is ensured by the charge of the capacitor. This capacitor also discharges slowly. And if, when working with a power tool, you often have to turn it on and off, then such a regulator does not provide a smooth start of the motor due to inertia.

All these shortcomings are deprived of the electrical circuit shown in Fig. 1. It provides a smooth start of the motor, as well as smooth speed control over a wide range. In addition, this circuit has practically no inertia, i.e. when you turn it on again immediately after turning it off, the output voltage will still gradually increase smoothly.

The device is made in the form of a separate attachment through which the power tool is powered. This allows you to make it universal - it provides the ability to connect the load

The change in the circuit for connecting a conventional triac is shown in Fig. 3.

In conclusion, it can be noted that in order to protect the power tool from damage in the event of an overload, it is possible to install a current electromechanical machine to the desired current in the power circuit of the regulator circuit. It can also be used as a switch. On sale of such devices there is always a large selection.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Giant Office Display Microsoft Surface Hub 2 18.05.2018

Microsoft has unveiled the Surface Hub 2, the next generation of giant conference room displays. The original Surface Hub, which went on sale in 2016, was 1080p (55-inch) and 4K (84-inch). The new model boasts a 50,5-inch diagonal with even higher resolution than 4K, as well as a 3:2 aspect ratio and very thin bezels.

The new display can be placed in portrait mode. The swivel mechanism on the Surface Hub 2 is similar to the one on the Surface Book. Specifications, release date and cost of the new device are kept secret. We only know that it will go on sale in 2019.
Microsoft has improved not only the hardware, but also the software component of the display. It still works on Windows 10, but allows multiple people to use it at the same time. They approach the screen, log in with a fingerprint sensor, and collect their work into a single joint document.

Surface Hub 2 software is compatible with Microsoft Teams. And the long-range microphone and 4K camera, along with the ability to use the display in portrait mode during video calls, make it feel like you're standing next to a colleague.

Surface Hub 2 is light and flexible enough to be carried between rooms. Office furniture maker Steelcase is set to launch screen stands and wall mounts. It will even be possible to combine four devices into one and get a huge monitor, on different parts of which different content is displayed.
