To implement one of my circuits, I needed a power supply for 155-series microcircuits, 5V at 400mA. Thinking about whether it is possible to "pump" the voltage reserve into an additional current, and led to the creation of this circuit. The use of the VD2 diode dramatically increased the efficiency of the circuit. Now it is a classic, but 20 years ago it was not so obvious. All transistors are cold and without heatsinks.
