One of the inconveniences of using a paired phone is waiting for the neighbor to release the line. In order not to grab the handset every minute in the hope of hearing a beep of a free channel, it is useful to acquire an indicator that would visually inform about the onset of such a moment.

Mandatory requirements that the status indicator must satisfy are not to create a load on the line above the norm and to remain operational during power surges accompanying call signals. Since the device must operate indefinitely, it is advisable not to use an auxiliary power supply. Along with the task, such an indicator will help to notice line damage.

The simplest indicator of line voltage can be a voltmeter consisting of a resistor and an M476/1 pointer microammeter used in tape recorders (PU1 in Fig. 1). Its full deflection current - 0,11 mA - perfectly meets the requirement of the minimum load on the line (the current consumption from the line in standby mode should not exceed 0,5 mA).

When the handset is on the device, the voltage in the line is about 60 V and a current of about 1 mA flows through the PU0,1 head, the arrow of the device is at the right edge of the scale. When the tube is removed, the voltage drops to 5 ... 15 V and the arrow deviates to the left. When the line is occupied by a neighbor or a malfunction, the arrow occupies the extreme left position. Diode VD1 protects the microammeter from positive pulses of the ringing signal. Negative call pulse protection is not required because the paired phone blocker outputs single polarity signals.

The considered indicator is extremely simple, but it is possible to observe its readings only in close proximity. More convenient is an indicator with a light indication, which works on the principle of a relaxation generator with a storage capacity (Fig. 2). Its drawback is too long pauses (about 4 s) between flashes of the HL1 LED. During pauses, the capacitor C1 is charged to a voltage at which the dinistor VS1 fires. Capacitor C1 is discharged through LED HL1 and resistor R2.

The LED stops flashing when the handset is picked up on the main or paired set. The moment of release of the line is clearly visible due to the appearance of LED flashes.

To double the frequency of alternating flashes, while maintaining the duration of the flashes themselves on the order of 0,1 s, allows the indicator, made according to the scheme in Fig. 3. After the dinistor is triggered, the capacitors are discharged: C1 - through the VD1 diode, and C2 - through the VD3 diode. Resistors can be used type MLT-0,125, capacitors - K52 - 9 or any others. The dinistor should have a response voltage of about 30 V.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Lack of sleep makes us eat too much 01.04.2016

Now almost every person in one way or another experiences a lack of sleep, and this leads to a variety of body disorders. For example, lack of sleep can lead to significant weight gain.

People tend to eat more if they didn't get enough sleep the previous night. Now scientists have linked this behavior to human physiology: sleep deprivation alters the endocannabinoid system, a series of receptors that influence hormone regulation and immune function.

During the study, physicians constantly monitored the amount of sleep of 14 young men and women. For four nights, six participants slept normally, approximately 7,5 hours per night, while the remaining eight participants received only 4 hours of sleep. They were given the same amount of calories per day. The researchers asked subjects to rate their hunger, mood, appetite, and anxiety, and then took hourly blood tests to measure levels of various substances (such as cortisol, a hormone that helps the body wake up).

Scientists were particularly interested in a specific endocannabinoid known to help the body regulate appetite and energy levels. It turned out that its level in the body of people who did not sleep enough varied significantly during the day. Lack of sleep makes the endocannabinoid system overactive, causing people to constantly eat. Moreover, sleepy participants in the experiment did not just eat more, but preferred food that was fatter and more nutritious, despite the fact that they were given a sufficient amount of calories just a few hours before.

The study was short, there were few participants, but the scientists believe that the results can be applied to everyday life. For example, 40% of Americans get less than 7 hours of sleep per night. Scientists already know that lack of sleep affects human genes, mood, and ability to pick up social cues, so it may not be a coincidence that 35% of Americans are obese. A better understanding of the mechanisms that link sleep deprivation and obesity could help clinicians find a way to prevent weight gain.

And the usefulness of sleep can be seen in at least these two examples: good sleep improves memory and helps get rid of toxins.
