When repairing imported or domestic equipment for which there are no circuits, it is often necessary to determine the connections of the elements on the board. And if the board has metalized vias, then you also need to make sure that they have not degraded, i.e. their contact resistance is less than 1 ohm. By the way, it has been noticed that under the influence of various factors, their contact resistance can increase up to 20 ... 100 Ohms over time, and this leads to the complete inoperability of the device.

Usually, radio amateurs use an avometer to determine the increased resistance of transitions on the board. However, with such a measurement, a voltage from 1,5 V to 9 V can be applied to the inputs of microcircuits, and even with incorrect measurement in the forbidden polarity for some outputs, which can lead to failure of the circuit elements. To avoid these inconveniences, a probe was assembled, when measured, the voltage applied to the board tracks does not exceed 5 millivolts. Such a probe can reliably determine the serviceability of "metallization".

The probe circuit is shown in the figure.

PCB Probe

The device consists of a 1 kHz signal generator (VT1, VT2), a bridge (R7, R5, R6, R8, R9, R10) and an unbalance amplifier (VT4). The low frequency signal is fed to the resistor bridge. When the bridge is balanced, which occurs when the probes are closed, there is no sound in the telephone capsule. With any imbalance of the bridge, the telephone capsule emits a low-frequency signal.

With serviceable parts, the probe starts working immediately. It is only necessary to set the balance of the bridge with the resistor R10. Further adjustment of the probe is not required.

Any low-power bipolar silicon or germanium transistors with a gain of at least 100 can be used in the probe. The values of the resistors and capacitors may differ from those indicated by 30 ... 40 percent in any direction, it is only important to observe the condition:

R7=R8; R5+R6=R9+R10.

The design of the probe is any, although the traditional one, in the form of a probe, is most preferable. The printed circuit board and circuit board are shown in the figure.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Bottles on the sidewalk 20.07.2009

Japanese road builders have begun to use asphalt with glass in Tokyo. Unnecessary bottles are crushed into grains with a diameter of one and a half millimeters and mixed into the asphalt. It takes 20 half-liter bottles per square meter of road surface.

Asphalt of a new type does not heat up so much in the summer sun: at a normal coating temperature of 50,8 degrees Celsius, the “glass” one heats up to only 36 degrees. It becomes easier to breathe in the city.
