Sometimes there is a need for a remote switch for various electrical appliances, and the switch itself must have reliable galvanic isolation from the network, i.e. be safe. Similar requirements are valid, say, when controlling lighting lamps in rooms with high humidity. The use of electromagnetic relays in these conditions is undesirable due to their low reliability.

The way out is the proposed electronic switch. It uses a symmetrical thyristor - triac, which made it possible to switch alternating voltage without using rectifier diodes necessary for thyristor devices. The operation of the triac is controlled by the switch SA1 through a low-power transformer T1. This uses the property of the triac to open when a voltage of the same polarity is applied to its control electrode as on the anode. That is why the winding I of the transformer is connected between the anode and the control electrode.

Remote switch for electrical appliances

If the switch contacts are open, a small no-load current flows through the I winding. The voltage across the resistor R1 is not enough to open the triac, the load - the lighting lamp EL1 - is de-energized.

When the switch contacts close, winding II is in short circuit mode. In this case, the current in the winding I increases sharply, which means that the voltage drop across the resistor increases. The triac will open at the beginning of each half-cycle of the mains voltage, the load will be energized.

The transformer in this mode will not be overloaded, since after the triac opens, the voltage across it decreases to 2 V and a small current flows in winding II.

In the device, it is desirable to use a transformer with a voltage on the secondary winding of 8 ... 10 V with a current flowing through the primary of 0,2 ... 0,4 A. The no-load current should not exceed 10 mA. A similar transformer can be borrowed from a network adapter used to power players, calculators, and transistor radios. It is preferable to use a transformer with windings wound in different sections of the frame - this will increase the electrical safety of the device.

The triac can be, in addition to that indicated on the diagram, KU208V. If the load power does not exceed 250 W, the heat sink is not needed, with a higher power, the triac will have to be installed on the heat sink. The maximum load power should not exceed 1,1 kW. Trimmer resistor - SPO, SP4 or other. They set the mode of reliable opening of the triac.

The triac, transformer and resistor can be located at a distance of several meters from the room in which the switch and the load (for example, lighting lamps) are installed. For the convenience of load control, several switches can be connected in parallel with the secondary winding of the transformer.

Machine for thinning flowers in gardens 02.05.2024

In modern agriculture, technological progress is developing aimed at increasing the efficiency of plant care processes. The innovative Florix flower thinning machine was presented in Italy, designed to optimize the harvesting stage. This tool is equipped with mobile arms, allowing it to be easily adapted to the needs of the garden. The operator can adjust the speed of the thin wires by controlling them from the tractor cab using a joystick. This approach significantly increases the efficiency of the flower thinning process, providing the possibility of individual adjustment to the specific conditions of the garden, as well as the variety and type of fruit grown in it. After testing the Florix machine for two years on various types of fruit, the results were very encouraging. Farmers such as Filiberto Montanari, who has used a Florix machine for several years, have reported a significant reduction in the time and labor required to thin flowers. ... >>

Advanced Infrared Microscope 02.05.2024

Microscopes play an important role in scientific research, allowing scientists to delve into structures and processes invisible to the eye. However, various microscopy methods have their limitations, and among them was the limitation of resolution when using the infrared range. But the latest achievements of Japanese researchers from the University of Tokyo open up new prospects for studying the microworld. Scientists from the University of Tokyo have unveiled a new microscope that will revolutionize the capabilities of infrared microscopy. This advanced instrument allows you to see the internal structures of living bacteria with amazing clarity on the nanometer scale. Typically, mid-infrared microscopes are limited by low resolution, but the latest development from Japanese researchers overcomes these limitations. According to scientists, the developed microscope allows creating images with a resolution of up to 120 nanometers, which is 30 times higher than the resolution of traditional microscopes. ... >>

Air trap for insects 01.05.2024

Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the economy, and pest control is an integral part of this process. A team of scientists from the Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Potato Research Institute (ICAR-CPRI), Shimla, has come up with an innovative solution to this problem - a wind-powered insect air trap. This device addresses the shortcomings of traditional pest control methods by providing real-time insect population data. The trap is powered entirely by wind energy, making it an environmentally friendly solution that requires no power. Its unique design allows monitoring of both harmful and beneficial insects, providing a complete overview of the population in any agricultural area. “By assessing target pests at the right time, we can take necessary measures to control both pests and diseases,” says Kapil ... >>

Robot emotions 20.04.2007

According to British scientists from the University of Hertfordshire, a domestic robot should be able to learn to live with people.

“If robots are to be integrated into people’s daily lives in the future, they should not be machines that can be taken off the shelf in the store and immediately started using. The robot must learn how it should behave in a given situation. And for this you need teach him to recognize and show emotions. For example, if a person is crying, the robot needs to understand: whether to go to help him or better to hide somewhere, so as not to interfere, "says Lola Cañamero, coordinator of the FEELIX GROWING project, carried out under the Sixth Framework Program of the European Commission .

The goal of this project is to develop an autonomous robot capable of interacting with people in everyday situations. Last year, Lola Cañamero already tried to take the robot she created out of the laboratory and agreed with the residents of a neighboring house to live with them.

The data obtained as a result of this work made it possible to put forward the idea that in order to be able to integrate a robot into human society, the robot must develop emotionally and get used to its owner.
