An unenviable situation: the guests approached, but it was difficult to notify the owners about this - when the apartments more and more began to resemble either fortresses or prisons with armored bulletproof entrance doors at the entrances, on the floors and bars on the windows.

Electric calls can partly solve the "signal-information" problem. But most of them need a household 220-volt network (moreover, electricity is consumed both when the "tram trill" is given and in the standby mode), which is by no means unsafe. Against this background, electronic musical calls look advantageous, only now they are not cheap.

The device I propose here, one might say, is almost out of competition. First, it's homemade. Secondly, it is made on the basis of a conventional broadcast loudspeaker, contains a minimum of details and is able to give a sufficiently strong sound signal, because the emitter is a speaker. Thirdly, the power supply of such a signaling device is carried out from an autonomous low-voltage source (batteries). Fourthly, the device does not consume energy in standby mode, it is absolutely safe and can be used not only as a house call, but also as an audible indicator in the security system. Moreover, contact buttons, a reed switch or other sensors that work on a circuit can be located at a distance of up to 100 m from the sound emitter itself.

Schematic diagram of a home-made bell based on a subscriber loudspeaker and a variant of its use as a security device, as well as a multi-tone ("Children" - "Adults") sound signaling device for the arrival of guests.

Due to the small number of parts, it makes no sense to make a printed circuit board. Installation is carried out in a hinged way, well known to everyone from school physics lessons. As soldering supports, the outputs of the speaker, transformer, 68-kilohm potentiometer are used.

The volume control of the base loudspeaker - R1 on the circuit diagram - performs the function of the pitch control of the generated signal, which is set as desired. The switch (toggle switch, button or other contact connector) is placed in a convenient place at the entrance to the entrance, section on the floor, at the front apartment door.

Any of the low-power germanium MP1 - MP39 will fit as a transistor VT42. The choice of resistor R2 (as well as R3 and R4 for a non-standard use of the call) is just as uncritical: the most common VS, MLT, ULM with a rated power of 0,125 W or more will do. Capacitor - of any type (as well as reed switches that work on a circuit, if this sound signaling device is to work in a security system). Elements R1, T1 and BA1 - from the broadcast loudspeaker.

It happens that a correctly assembled call does not work when the power is connected. Then you should swap the ends of one of the windings of the transformer T1. However, the lack of generation at an audio frequency may also be a consequence of the substandard transistor VT1. In this case, you will have to replace it with another one with a higher gain.

If the range of pitch tuning by potentiometer R1 does not suit the owners, then it is easy to change it by selecting the capacitance of capacitor C1. But the sound of this call also depends on the supply voltage, which can be used, for example, for multi-tone signaling when guarding several objects, personifying callers ("Children" - "Adults") by introducing a low-resistance resistor into the circuit (in series with one or another switch). By changing the pitch of the call, one can also judge the degree of discharge of the power source and timely change a run-down galvanic cell or battery with new ones. Just do not forget about the observance of polarity, because the transistor does not tolerate polarity reversal.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Microphone Razer Seiren 17.12.2014

The microphone is not a part of a computer system that gets a lot of attention. Most users do not even think about this component, using either cheap headsets for communication, or generally being content with the microphone built into the webcam with its very mediocre voice quality. But those who often record videos and podcasts know how important a good microphone is and how bad it can spoil the overall impression of the video.

The well-known manufacturer of gaming accessories, Razer, has met this category of enthusiasts by offering them the Seiren, a microphone specifically designed for high-quality speech and vocal recording, but due to its design features, it is also suitable for digitizing instrumental parts.

Unlike studio models that require 48V power supply and use professional XLR connectors, Seiren, thanks to the integrated ADC, can be connected to a regular USB port. But this is not the simplest ADC for a couple of dollars, but quite a serious solution that can digitize sound in 24-bit 192 kHz format. The most important part, the microphone itself, is made up of three 14mm condenser modules, allowing you to customize the polar pattern to suit your needs: traditional cardioid for podcasting and live streaming, stereo for vocals and instruments, and omnidirectional for teleconferencing , and bi-directional - for interviews or recording duet vocals.

The sensitivity of the microphone part is 4,5 mV / Pascal at a frequency of 1 kHz, the declared frequency range is from 20 Hz to 20 kHz. The maximum sound pressure that Seiren can withstand without significant distortion is 120 dB with a harmonic distortion level of 0,5%. For zero-latency monitoring, the Razer Seiren has a separate headphone amplifier with a signal-to-noise ratio of around 114 dB and delivering 130 milliwatts per channel into a 16 ohm load.

The body of the device is made of anodized aluminum, has a classic desktop stand and can be additionally equipped with a pop filter that cuts off interference from breathing and explosive consonants. If the microphone is to be used in a stand, Razer offers a spider mount.

The price of the Razer Seiren kit with a spider and a pop filter is $230, and a separate microphone will cost a lover of high-quality sound recording $180.
