We bring to your attention a scheme that can amuse children. It can generate police car siren sounds, birds chirping, space ship sounds, etc. In addition, the circuit can be used in doorbells or used in alarms. This circuit is easy to make and contains inexpensive components.

The circuit consists of four parts: a binary counter, a digital-to-analogue converter (DAC), a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), and an audio output amplifier. The speed at which the counter counts depends on the frequency of the VCO at its output, and the frequency of the VCO in turn is determined by the counter. This feedback loop forms the output signal.

According to the circuit shown in the figure, the initial frequency of the oscillator assembled on the elements IC2a and IC2b is set by the potentiometer VR1 and the capacitor C1. Initially, the oscillator operates at a relatively low frequency, the frequency gradually increases as the voltage at the DAC output increases.

The DAC is a group of resistors R1...R8, connected to the output of the counter IC1, providing the base current of the transistor TR1. When all outputs of IC1 are set low, a small current will flow through the base of transistor TR1, hence the control voltage will be low. As the counter outputs appear logic ones, the base current of the transistor TR1 will increase, and consequently the output frequency of the VCO will increase.

The VCO itself is assembled on the elements IC2a, IC2b, TR1, diodes D2 ... D5, capacitor C1, resistors R10 and VR1. The diode bridge works basically as a voltage controlled resistor.

The buffer amplifier is assembled on four IC2 elements connected in parallel, the output of the amplifier is connected to the loudspeaker LS1 through the capacitor C2. The output signal level is sufficient for experimental purposes; to obtain a greater volume, the output amplifier can be replaced with a conventional ULF.

The connections on the circuit are made in the usual way, the wiring is not critical, but make sure that the polarity of the power supply is connected to the chips correctly. By pressing the button S1, you will hear a sound, which will depend on the position of the potentiometer VR1. To change the effect, press the S1 button.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Barge with hydrogen electric propulsion 03.10.2011

Four years ago, British engineers from the University of Birmingham decided to see if the river fleet could be modernized, namely, replacing diesel engines with hydrogen-powered electric ones.

No sooner said than done. They took an old barge, installed a 10 kW electric motor and 47 kWh lead (that is, cheap) batteries, which powered the electric motor during the voyage. To pump electricity into the batteries, a fuel cell with a power of 1 kW was installed on board, and a hydrogen storage of 50 kWh was installed to it. Not without a solar panel with a capacity of 320 watts.

The hydrogen storage is one of the main elements of the facility. It was made from a mixture of powders of hydride-forming elements - titanium, zirconium, vanadium, manganese and iron, placed in a steel shell. When heated, this element releases hydrogen, which is used to generate electricity.

Tests have shown that the barge runs 4-6 hours every day, consuming an average of 14-18 kWh of energy per trip. And the fuel cell works around the clock and successfully replenishes this reserve, and even feeds the ship's instruments, computers and crew cell phones. The solar battery also contributed.

However, to save hydrogen, the batteries were also recharged from the network during stops. As a result, the barge, to the delight of the crew, became almost silent, stopped poisoning people and the environment with stinking diesel exhaust, and in addition reduced carbon dioxide emissions (if hydrogen is obtained without the use of fossil fuels).
