During the operation of the ZM-2U4 electric bell (manufacturer - LEZ, Lobnya, Moscow Region), its shortcomings were revealed associated with the mercury switch installed in it. Each time the call button is pressed, an arc discharge occurs between the contacts and mercury inside the switch bulb, as a result of which the contacts oxidize and burn. Initially, this leads to a decrease in the reliability of the call, and in the future - to its failure.
To restore the operation of the bell, I installed an automatic machine instead of a mercury switch, made according to the scheme shown in fig. 1.
On the elements DD1.1 and DD1.2, a pulse generator is assembled, the repetition rate of which is determined by the values of the capacitor C1 and resistor R2, and the duration is determined by the value of the resistor R1. The pulses are fed to the amplifying stage, made on a field-effect transistor VT1. It controls the bell electromagnet Y1, shunted to suppress voltage surges by the VD2, R3 chain.
The machine is powered by a rectifier (Fig. 2), made on a regular transformer T1 of the bell, a diode bridge VD1 and a smoothing capacitor C1. Voltage is supplied to the machine when the bell button SB1 is pressed. To power the microcircuit, a parametric stabilizer R4VD3 was used.
The field effect transistor can be replaced with a composite bipolar one, for example, the KT829 or KT972 series. The base of the transistor is turned on instead of the gate, the collector instead of the drain, the emitter instead of the source. A limiting resistor with a resistance of approximately 3,3 kOhm must be installed in the base circuit. Capacitor C1 - ceramic series KM-6 or metal film (K73-16, K73-17, etc.), C2 - K50-35. Diode bridge - any other series indicated on the diagram.
The details of the machine are mounted on a printed circuit board (Fig. 3) made of one-sided foil fiberglass.
Insulating tracks are obtained by cutting the foil with a sharp knife or a special cutter. The board and capacitor C2 are strengthened inside the bell housing, and the bridge is in the recess at the back.

Artificial leather for touch emulation
15.04.2024
In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>
Petgugu Global cat litter
15.04.2024
Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>
The attractiveness of caring men
14.04.2024
The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>
Random news from the Archive The largest floating wind farm to be built
06.11.2015
The Scottish government has signed an agreement with the Norwegian company Statoil, according to which the latter will build the world's largest wind farm.
The power plant will be located at a distance of about 25 km from the coast of the Scottish city of Peterhead. It will include five Hywind wind turbines with a capacity of 6 MW, which will be able to generate about 135 GWh of electricity annually. According to experts, this is enough to provide electricity to almost 20 Scottish households.
Hywind wind generators are held in place by three anchors to which they are attached with cables, and a hollow design with ballast at the bottom allows you to dive to the required depth.
Previously, analysts at the Carbon Trust had calculated that the use of floating power plants for commercial purposes would lower the price per 1000 kWh of energy below the £100 mark. Statoil claims that Hywind wind turbines will bring prices in the region of £85-95.
