The protective effect of grounding is based on the fact that parts of electrical installations that are dangerous to touch if the insulation is broken are connected to ground electrodes located in the ground, i.e., a ground is created that has a resistance that is small enough to cause the voltage drop across it (and it is it that affects the body, determining the value of the current) did not reach a dangerous value. Therefore, a person who touches the grounded part falls under low voltage. The better the grounding, i.e., the lower its resistance, the lower the voltage that appears when the insulation is broken on machines, machine tools, housings of electrical appliances and motors, building structures, overhead line supports and on the surface of the earth.

It is clear that this increases the cost of labor and materials required for the installation of a grounding device. The regulations set reasonable limits for the touch voltage and at the same time allow the design of earthing without excessive costs.

The SNiP, PUE, Rules for technical operation and instructions list in detail the elements of electrical installations that need to be grounded, provide instructions for calculating ground electrodes and contact voltages for different conditions, list the requirements for the design, installation and operation of grounding devices.

The characteristic and fundamental features of the standards are:

  • departure from the standardization of grounding devices according to the resistance of the spreading of electric current and orientation towards the regulation of emerging voltages;
  • the use of natural grounding conductors while ensuring their performance under conditions of high fault currents;
  • taking into account the corrosive effect of the soil to ensure the reliability of grounding conductors and grounding conductors.

With this in mind, the dimensions of the elements have been increased, for example, the standard minimum diameter of earth rods made of non-galvanized steel has been increased from 6 to 10 mm.

The norms are constantly being improved, changes and additions are made to them, which are published in collections and new editions of normative documents.

Very often, the same grounding device is both working and protective, and sometimes lightning protection (lightning protection). In closely spaced installations with voltages up to 1 kV and above, a common grounding device is used, which reduces the cost of its installation. In this case, the smallest value of resistance to current spreading from those values that are normalized for each of the combined electrical installations is taken as the norm.

The combination of a grounding conductor and grounding conductors is a grounding device through which the elements and parts of electrical installations are grounded.

The main elements of grounding devices:

1) natural grounding conductors, i.e., structures located in the ground or in contact with the ground, used for grounding;

2) grounding conductors connecting ground electrodes with grounded equipment;

3) artificial ground electrodes, i.e. those that are specially laid in the ground for grounding.

Each of the listed elements can have different designs.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

Fish in a wind tunnel 04.05.2011

Flying fish living in warm seas, fleeing from predators, are accelerated by the rotational movements of the tail, fly out of the water and fly over the water up to 70 meters at a speed of about 400 kilometers per hour. Wings are broad pectoral fins.

Korean engineers from the National University in Seoul placed stuffed flying fish in a wind tunnel, determining lift, air resistance and their relationship. This ratio indicates how many meters the aircraft is able to fly without a motor (and as soon as the fish jumped out of the water, it loses the ability to use the "motor" - the tail).

For a small propeller-driven aircraft, this ratio is 7, for a petrel 4, for kites 9-17. In flying fish, it is 4,4, which is not bad even for birds. If, however, a large cuvette with water is placed in a wind tunnel under a stuffed fish, which corresponds to flying low over water, then the ratio of gliding to descent rises to 5,5.

In this case, the so-called screen effect gives additional lift - a sharp increase in lift due to the reflection of air flows from the surface of the earth or water when flying at low altitude.
