ENCYCLOPEDIA OF RADIO ELECTRONICS AND ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING We control programs using the remote control. Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering Encyclopedia of radio electronics and electrical engineering / Computers The vast majority of PC users manage the programs installed on it in the traditional way - using the keyboard and mouse. But it turns out that commands to perform many operations can be given remotely using the IR remote control from any household appliance. It is enough to make a simple prefix to the computer, download and configure the control program. Even if the computer does not have a free COM port, the IR command receiver can be connected to an occupied mouse (but not a modem). It is important that the port "master" does not use the DCD chain. The scheme of the attachment-receiver is shown in fig. 1. Depending on the type of COM port plug installed in the computer, the XS1 socket can be nine-pin or 25-pin. The contact numbers of the latter in the diagram are indicated in brackets. The wires connecting the socket and the receiver itself must be long enough. This is necessary so that the photodetector B1 can be placed in a place not obscured from the remote control by foreign objects. The TSOP1736 photodetector can be replaced with another one designed to receive IR pulses with a frequency of 36 kHz, for example, 1LMS5360 or SFH506-36. Analogs of the integral stabilizer 78L05 - KR1157EN502A or KR1157EN502B. Their variants KR1157EN501A and KR1157EN501B differ in the purpose of the pins (1 - common, 2 - input, 3 - output). There are several programs for receiving and interpreting commands from the remote control. According to the author, the best of them is Girder. Its latest version can be found on the Download page of the site. . Right there at the address you need to download the Igor SFH343-device plugin, which ensures the interaction of the Girder program with the photodetector. The plugin can also be obtained directly from the developer's site < cesko.host.sk/downloads/lgorPiug.zip? PHPSESSID=c56b34cdacf7c96e0 f05854bb4bd09d19>. Please note that addresses may change over time. Install and configure the Girder program in the following order. 1. Run the received file for execution and accept the proposed agreement. The default installation location is C:\Program Files\girderXX, where XX is the version number of Girder. You can also select another folder. 2. Move lgorPlug.dll file from lgorPlug.zip archive to C:\Program Files\girderXX\Plugins folder. 3. Connect the assembled IR receiver to the COM port. 4. Run Girder. After splash screens, copyright warnings, and greetings, the screen shown in Figure 2 will appear on the screen. XNUMX, but with inscriptions in English. 5. Turning Girder into Russian. To do this, select the Settings... item in the File menu, go to the User Interface tab, select Russian in the Language list and click the Apply button. 6. When closing the window opened in the previous paragraph, go to the Modules tab and remove the checkmarks ("ticks") everywhere, except for the line Igor SFH-56 device in the list of modules and the suggestion Automatically enable input devices. Click on the Apply button. 7. Staying on the Modules tab, click on the Igor SFH-56 device line in the list of plug-ins, then click on the Settings button and set the COM port - the one to which the IR receiver is connected, Input Signal - DCD. Note that a different port input line is selected by default. Press the OK button, after which the background of the line of the selected plug-in should turn green and the inscription: "The module is loaded into memory (generates events)" appears. 8. Close the settings window by clicking the OK button. This completes the initial installation. Now, each time you press the button on the remote control directed at the photodetector B1 (see Fig. 1), the green "LED" flashes in the lower right corner of the window, and the received code in hexadecimal format appears in the status line (lower in the window). It remains to "train" Girder to correctly understand commands and execute them. It is important that at the training stage the remote control is located closer to the photodetector. This will reduce the chance of misperception of the command. First of all, let's "teach" the program to adjust the volume of sound playback by the computer. 1. Select the Add command item in the Edit menu. On the "tree" of commands in the left part of the window, the New branch with the remote control icon will grow. 2. Press the Learn event screen button, and then the remote control button corresponding to the programmable command. The accepted code should appear not only in the status bar, but also on the "display". 3. Using the corresponding menu item Edit, rename the command to VOL+. You can leave the Anti-repeat parameter for volume control at zero or set it to 50 ms. 4. Click on the VOL+ command, as a result of which it will be highlighted in the background. Let's go to the OS tab and in the drop-down list of commands, select Change. volume. In the Size step field, write +1800 (a plus is required). The smaller the specified value, the smaller steps the volume will change. If you check the OSD box, when you adjust the volume, a scale with divisions will appear on the computer screen (like on a TV). It remains to click on the Apply button. Now Girder "remembered" the command and will execute it every time you press the corresponding button on the remote control. We program the VOL- volume down command in the same way, except for the value in the Step size field, which must be negative. Thus, "learn" all the necessary commands. To call a certain program by pressing the remote control button, for example, WinAMP (media player), proceed in a similar way. But in the drop-down menu on the OS tab, select Run. By clicking on the Browse... button, they find the required executable file, in this case Winamp.exe. Don't forget to set the value of 400 ms in the Anti-repeat window, unlike the volume commands, this is necessary here. In the same way, you can make Girder launch any application on the remote control command, emulate keystrokes and their combinations, move the mouse cursor, eject and load CDs, change the screen resolution, and even turn off the computer. With some dexterity, it takes no more than 10 minutes to "learn" all commands given using one remote control. The result of the work must be saved in a configuration file with the *.GML extension by selecting the Save as... item in the File menu. There can be several such files, with different settings. To automatically set the configuration every time you start Girder, you need to go to the File menu, select the Settings... item and on the General tab, check the Autoload item. Next, select the required *.GML file from the list and click the OK button. You can also use the Run Girder with Windows option. Author: A. Zotov, Novokuznetsk See other articles Section Computers.
