Turning off the computer with the remote control of the TV tuner is not difficult. This is one feature of all TV tuners without exception. But turning on the computer by pressing the same cherished key, alas, will not work. To solve the problem, you have to pick up a soldering iron.

So, we need to modify the IR receiver included with any tuner.

This sensor contains three contacts. Depending on the specific model, the location of the contacts may vary. But this is not important, since the same thing is transmitted through these contacts. Supply voltage (+5 V and GND) is supplied to two contacts. The third contact is signal. We need to connect to all three contacts, for this we remove the insulation and solder three wires, simultaneously determining the purpose of the contacts using a multimeter.

Next, we need one variable resistor and a low power pnp transistor. By changing the resistance of the resistor, you can adjust the accuracy of the circuit. All these elements must be connected to the Wake-On-Lan motherboard connector.

When everything is soldered, enable Wake-On-Lan support in the BIOS and, by changing the resistance of the resistor, achieve a clear operation of the circuit by pressing a key on the remote control. Having found the required value (we recommend starting from values of 100 ohms and higher), all that remains is to insulate all connections and carefully remove the receiver into the PC case.

Alcohol content of warm beer 07.05.2024

Beer, as one of the most common alcoholic drinks, has its own unique taste, which can change depending on the temperature of consumption. A new study by an international team of scientists has found that beer temperature has a significant impact on the perception of alcoholic taste. The study, led by materials scientist Lei Jiang, found that at different temperatures, ethanol and water molecules form different types of clusters, which affects the perception of alcoholic taste. At low temperatures, more pyramid-like clusters form, which reduces the pungency of the "ethanol" taste and makes the drink taste less alcoholic. On the contrary, as the temperature increases, the clusters become more chain-like, resulting in a more pronounced alcoholic taste. This explains why the taste of some alcoholic drinks, such as baijiu, can change depending on temperature. The data obtained opens up new prospects for beverage manufacturers, ... >>

Major risk factor for gambling addiction 07.05.2024

Computer games are becoming an increasingly popular form of entertainment among teenagers, but the associated risk of gaming addiction remains a significant problem. American scientists conducted a study to determine the main factors contributing to this addiction and offer recommendations for its prevention. Over the course of six years, 385 teenagers were followed to find out what factors may predispose them to gambling addiction. The results showed that 90% of study participants were not at risk of addiction, while 10% became gambling addicts. It turned out that the key factor in the onset of gambling addiction is a low level of prosocial behavior. Teenagers with a low level of prosocial behavior do not show interest in the help and support of others, which can lead to a loss of contact with the real world and a deepening dependence on virtual reality offered by computer games. Based on these results, scientists ... >>

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

Mercedes smart car watch 05.01.2014

German automaker Mercedes-Benz has announced a computerized watch capable of interacting with its cars. Pebble Technology, a well-known participant in the wearable electronics market, took part in the creation of the device. Mercedes-Benz will show its "smart" watches to the general public in early January 2014. The presentation will take place as part of the CES 2014 exhibition in Las Vegas.

With the help of the presented device, drivers will be able to remotely receive information about the location of their cars and the amount of remaining fuel in the tank, so that you can plan your trip in advance. The device will also let you know if the doors in the car are closed.

In addition, useful functions are provided directly for driving. With the help of the Mercedes Digital DriveStyle online app, the smartwatch will vibrate to warn you about traffic jams, road repairs, accidents and other situations that you need to prepare for in advance. The gadget receives information from other road users based on V2V (Vehicle to Vehicle) communications.

Similar technologies for interacting with machines have previously been demonstrated by other automakers. For example, Ford Motor Company uses them to warn drivers about emergency braking. ABI Research analysts predict that by 2027, about 62% of new vehicles will be equipped with V2V technologies.

Mercedes-Benz does not intend to create a completely proprietary gadget infrastructure around the car. Earlier it was reported that the machines of this manufacturer will receive integration with a third-party wearable mini-computer Google Glass. These smart glasses are supposed to provide door-to-door navigation that will provide direction guidance not only to the car, but also to the pedestrian driver once they leave the vehicle.
