The circuit uses LM78L05 or a Soviet equivalent for 5V. Any diodes. The +5V voltage is obtained from the RTS and DTR signals in RS-232. This circuit, even from a laptop computer, can deliver 12mA. The only drawback is that the transistor-transistor logic device must be isolated from the computer case, because the interface treats the RS-232 case as a positive voltage.
