The absence of fans in video adapters for a long time was perceived by me as a virtue: if they don’t install it, then the thermal regime is normal without it. The misconception dissipated when I decided to check the temperature of the heatsink of the video adapters - it turned out to be undesirably high and even exceeded the temperature of the heatsink of the microprocessor. One of the reasons for overheating is the placement of the heatsink under the board, which prevents natural air circulation, and in such conditions even the best needle heatsinks are not able to work effectively and turn into de facto heat sinks.

The way out was quite obvious - install a fan on the radiator, i.e. turn it into a cooler. Since the "thermal power" of the video processor is small (much less than that of the microprocessor), even the smallest fan will provide cooling with a large margin. Therefore, it is advisable to reduce the frequency of its rotation to the minimum possible, which will reduce the current consumption, acoustic noise and vibration. The simplest way is to include a maximum resistance resistor in the power circuit, which still ensures a reliable start (for fans with a supply voltage of 12 V - 68 ... 300 Ohm). Using the circuit shown in fig. 1, it is possible to provide an additional reduction in fan power by increasing the resistance of the quenching resistor R1, since the boost capacitor C1 will provide the initial spin-up. Resistor R1 - MLT-0,5, capacitor C1 - K50-16, K50-35 or similar imported.

Fan on video card

You can use any miniature fan, for example, KF-0410C1H (supply voltage - 12 V), D40SM-5A (5 V) or a fan removed from the microprocessor cooler. Mounting to the radiator can be anything, for example, the author simply glued it with hot glue at four points. You just need to pay attention to the fact that the mount does not interfere with the movement of air.

After the revision, the temperature of the video processor heatsink dropped to ambient - the heating became almost imperceptible.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

The ocean has gone cold 01.03.2007

Although climatologists are confident about ongoing global warming, data from a global network of 3000 automatic buoys show that from 2003 to 2005, the surface layer of water 750 meters thick cooled by 0,02 degrees Celsius.

It seems to be not much, but due to the high heat capacity of water, the heat that disappeared somewhere would be more than enough to melt all the pack ice and all the icebergs of the oceans. It is assumed that the lost heat was re-emitted into space.
