When a computer with a 486DX33 processor was working, interference appeared on television and radio reception in the VHF band. Trying to get rid of them. I tried to connect the computer to the network through power filters, moved it within the room, but nothing helped. The solution came unexpectedly when I accidentally unplugged the mouse cable. The noise has been drastically reduced. Apparently, the cord connecting the manipulator to the computer played the role of an antenna for high-frequency pickups from the system (motherboard) board.

To get rid of interference, I soldered 1000 pF capacitors to all involved pins of the serial port connector to which the "mouse" is connected. I connected the free terminals of the capacitors to the common wire of the computer (pin 5 of the nine-pin connector of the named port). The result exceeded expectations: interference was significantly reduced, while the "mouse" remained operational. To completely eliminate interference, I tried to turn off the keyboard - the interference completely disappeared. However, I did not dare to solder the capacitors to the contacts of the keyboard connector, since it is very difficult to get to them.

The described method of eliminating or reducing interference does not affect the operation of the computer, since data is transferred via the serial port at a rather low speed, interference suppression capacitors only affect high-frequency pickups.

It is possible that the connecting wires of other devices (printer, modem, tape drive, etc.) can also be sources of interference, but I have not had a chance to check this. Disconnecting the monitor cable had no effect on the interference level.

Artificial leather for touch emulation 15.04.2024

In a modern technology world where distance is becoming increasingly commonplace, maintaining connection and a sense of closeness is important. Recent developments in artificial skin by German scientists from Saarland University represent a new era in virtual interactions. German researchers from Saarland University have developed ultra-thin films that can transmit the sensation of touch over a distance. This cutting-edge technology provides new opportunities for virtual communication, especially for those who find themselves far from their loved ones. The ultra-thin films developed by the researchers, just 50 micrometers thick, can be integrated into textiles and worn like a second skin. These films act as sensors that recognize tactile signals from mom or dad, and as actuators that transmit these movements to the baby. Parents' touch to the fabric activates sensors that react to pressure and deform the ultra-thin film. This ... >>

Petgugu Global cat litter 15.04.2024

Taking care of pets can often be a challenge, especially when it comes to keeping your home clean. A new interesting solution from the Petgugu Global startup has been presented, which will make life easier for cat owners and help them keep their home perfectly clean and tidy. Startup Petgugu Global has unveiled a unique cat toilet that can automatically flush feces, keeping your home clean and fresh. This innovative device is equipped with various smart sensors that monitor your pet's toilet activity and activate to automatically clean after use. The device connects to the sewer system and ensures efficient waste removal without the need for intervention from the owner. Additionally, the toilet has a large flushable storage capacity, making it ideal for multi-cat households. The Petgugu cat litter bowl is designed for use with water-soluble litters and offers a range of additional ... >>

The attractiveness of caring men 14.04.2024

The stereotype that women prefer "bad boys" has long been widespread. However, recent research conducted by British scientists from Monash University offers a new perspective on this issue. They looked at how women responded to men's emotional responsibility and willingness to help others. The study's findings could change our understanding of what makes men attractive to women. A study conducted by scientists from Monash University leads to new findings about men's attractiveness to women. In the experiment, women were shown photographs of men with brief stories about their behavior in various situations, including their reaction to an encounter with a homeless person. Some of the men ignored the homeless man, while others helped him, such as buying him food. A study found that men who showed empathy and kindness were more attractive to women compared to men who showed empathy and kindness. ... >>

The recommended number of steps per day has been determined 08.08.2023

Studies conducted by scientists show that over the past hundred years, humanity has significantly reduced the number of daily steps - by 96%. It is necessary to realize that the complete cessation of motor activity can lead to the threat of extinction of the human species. But there was an alternative, and this is not the famous ten thousand steps.

It turns out that this number became the standard by mistake when, in 1964, a Japanese company launched a crocometer on the market, which translates as "10 step counter." This novelty impressed customers so much that they quickly accepted this value and began to strive for it without much motive.

In fact, the optimal number of steps per day for each person depends on many factors, including overall health, level of physical activity during the day, and even eating style. Harvard University professor Yiming Lee conducted a study on this topic together with colleagues. About 16 American women over 70 took part in the study. Each of them was given a wrist device for counting steps, after which the experiment was launched.

The results showed that, on average, the participants walked about 5500 steps a day. However, those who walked 7500 steps or less were more likely to live longer than those who limited themselves to 4500 steps. The positive effects of physical activity persisted up to the 7500 step mark, and walking above this threshold did not have a significant positive effect on life expectancy.
