We continue our review of the possible nodes of electronic equipment that can be created from operational amplifiers.

multivibrator

Practical application of operational amplifiers. multivibrator

Here is such a thing that will generate rectangular pulses with a frequency that can be calculated by the formula (or rather, we calculate the period, and the frequency, as you know, is the inverse of the period):

Practical application of operational amplifiers. Formula

Bistable multivibrator

A bistable multivibrator has two stable states, which are characterized by different voltages at its output. These same states are switched by input pulses of different polarity.

Practical application of operational amplifiers. Bistable multivibrator

A pulse of negative polarity leads to the appearance of a supply voltage at the output of the multivibrator, a pulse of positive polarity leads to the appearance of zero voltage at the output.

Practical application of operational amplifiers

It's about as shown in the picture.

The magnitude of the pulse required to switch the multivibrator can be estimated from the formula:

Practical application of operational amplifiers. Formula

Where V0 is the supply voltage.

Comparator

Very, very useful thing in the household.

Practical application of operational amplifiers. Comparator

The comparator compares two voltages applied to its inputs. One of the voltages is called the reference (reference voltage) - the second voltage is compared with it. If the measured voltage is lower than the reference voltage, the supply voltage lives peacefully at the output of the comparator, but if the measured voltage exceeds the reference voltage, then the comparator output is reset to zero.

In this case, we form a reference voltage using a resistive divider R1-R2 and apply it to a non-inverting input. The measured voltage is applied to the inverting input.

Schmidt trigger

While useful, the above comparator circuit has a significant drawback - any noise induced into the input circuit can cause the comparator to switch. To avoid such a nuisance, you can use a comparator on a Schmidt trigger.

Practical application of operational amplifiers. Schmidt trigger

This device was invented by the American scientist Otto Schmitt. Therefore, by the way, writing "Schmitt trigger" and not "Schmidt trigger" will not be wrong - you can write this way and that.

Let's return, however, to the scheme.

As you can see, it is almost a complete analogue of a conventional comparator, with the exception of one - positive feedback through the resistor R3. This thing forms the so-called hysteresis - that is, the delay in turning on and off the comparator. Rather, it slightly increases the on threshold and slightly reduces the off threshold. Thus, we can provide a higher noise immunity of the circuit.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

LibreSync LS9 Wireless Module 11.04.2016

Simultaneously with the LibreSync LS5B and LS6B wireless modules, which allow streaming in multiple rooms, Libre Wireless Technologies introduced a product called LibreSync LS9 that supports Google Cast for Audio.

Like the other two novelties, this is a complete solution. It is offered as a module for the easiest possible integration with a plug-in connection and as a chip mounted on a printed circuit board (COB technology). The second option is aimed at manufacturers who prefer to install the LS9 on the printed circuit board of their electronic device. It is characterized by greater flexibility and lower cost.

The LibreSync LS9 module runs Linux, complies with Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth LE specifications. The package includes an API for accessing the functionality of the module, and in the case of COB, an example of use, SoC and an RF block. Both versions include a cryptographic chip and an API for it - with their help, developers can implement authentication mechanisms and ensure the secure operation of the module.

It also includes apps for iOS and Android. According to the manufacturer, LibreSync LS9 is suitable for use in speakers, receivers and other similar consumer audio components.
