If you use this simple device in a room where light is needed for a short time, you can not only save electricity, but also change the light bulb less often.

When the device is turned on (Fig. 1), the capacitor C1 smoothly opens the transistor VT4 and the thyristor VS1, which in turn leads to a "soft" voltage supply to the HL1 lamp. The device is used as a corridor switch, where the light is needed only to open the door or take off the shoes. The device differs from corridor timers in that it does not contain a switch, and the touch pad is disguised as a regular carnation. The circuit does not need scarce parts, it has been working for me for 4 years without failure.

Circuit operation. If you touch (for more than 1 s) the sensor pad E1, then the charge of the capacitor C1 will lead to the flip of the trigger on transistors VT2, VT3, and the transistor VT4 will open. The burning time of the HL1 lamp is determined by the discharge time of the capacitor C2. Elements VD1 and C1 protect the transistor VT1 from breakdown and high-frequency interference.

Establishment reduced to the selection of the resistance of the resistor R2. This resistance depends on the length of the connecting wire from the resistor R1 to the “stud” and is selected so that the transistor VT1 is securely closed and passes current only when the sensor is touched

Design. All parts are placed on the board (Fig. 2) in a plastic box thyristor VS1 - on the board in a horizontal position, and the control electrode is connected to the VT4 emitter with a mounting wire.

The maximum length of a thin wire coming from the resistor R1 is 2 m. The power of the HL1 light bulb is not more than 100 W, otherwise you need to install the VS1 thyristor on the heat sink and use more powerful rectifier bridge diodes.

Traffic noise delays the growth of chicks 06.05.2024

The sounds that surround us in modern cities are becoming increasingly piercing. However, few people think about how this noise affects the animal world, especially such delicate creatures as chicks that have not yet hatched from their eggs. Recent research is shedding light on this issue, indicating serious consequences for their development and survival. Scientists have found that exposure of zebra diamondback chicks to traffic noise can cause serious disruption to their development. Experiments have shown that noise pollution can significantly delay their hatching, and those chicks that do emerge face a number of health-promoting problems. The researchers also found that the negative effects of noise pollution extend into the adult birds. Reduced chances of reproduction and decreased fertility indicate the long-term effects that traffic noise has on wildlife. The study results highlight the need ... >>

A New Way to Control and Manipulate Optical Signals 05.05.2024

The modern world of science and technology is developing rapidly, and every day new methods and technologies appear that open up new prospects for us in various fields. One such innovation is the development by German scientists of a new way to control optical signals, which could lead to significant progress in the field of photonics. Recent research has allowed German scientists to create a tunable waveplate inside a fused silica waveguide. This method, based on the use of a liquid crystal layer, allows one to effectively change the polarization of light passing through a waveguide. This technological breakthrough opens up new prospects for the development of compact and efficient photonic devices capable of processing large volumes of data. The electro-optical control of polarization provided by the new method could provide the basis for a new class of integrated photonic devices. This opens up great opportunities for ... >>

IBM Telum processor 27.08.2021

IBM introduced the Telum processor. This is a very unusual solution based on AI and designed to ensure security.

IBM itself speaks of the new solution as a processor for accelerating artificial intelligence. And it's built for deep learning in enterprise workloads to solve fraud problems in real time. Telum succeeds the IBM z15 and will be the central processing unit for the next generation of IBM Z and LinuxOne systems.

According to the press release, businesses today typically use detection methods to detect fraud after it has occurred. This process can be time consuming and computationally intensive due to the limitations of current technology, especially when analysis and fraud detection are conducted away from critical transactions and data. Telum aims to help customers change their mindset from fraud detection to fraud prevention.

The new chip features an innovative centralized design that allows customers to harness the full power of the AI processor for AI-enabled workloads, making it ideal for financial services workloads such as fraud detection, loan processing, transaction clearing and settlement, and anti-money laundering. money and risk analysis. With these innovations, customers will be able to improve fraud detection based on existing rules or use machine learning to speed up loan approval processes, improve customer service, and identify which deals or transactions are likely to fail.

The processor is manufactured using a 7 nm process technology and contains 22 billion transistors. It contains 8 cores with a frequency of more than 5 GHz and 2 MB L32 cache. There is also a 3MB L256 virtual cache and a 4GB L2 cache. The launch of Telum-based systems is scheduled for the first half of next year.
